Thank you for the videos! Tip for mooring the scandi way😀 Use long lines that go through the bouy (and whatever you tie your bow to), and and back to the boat. This gives you a lot of freedom, especially if the winds are strong.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like a good idea, but I can't think of the benefit of running it all the way forward. Can you explain? Thanks, Chris

@@SailingAurora, if you for example are experiencing some strong winds on your beam, you don't have to leave the boat to get untied. It gives you the freedom to leave without getting of the boat, untieing and holding a heavy bow while climbing onboard again.

Tips: Secure the bolts using a plastic zip-tie. These are strong enough to prevent the bolt from unscrewing without you noticing it. If a wire is used you are adding a new metal which eventually will start rusting. It's equally easy to spot if the zip is gone.

Fun when you recognize yourself and the rocks 😁 When you talked about the U bolts, I came up with a fun thing to do. You take a used split pin and put it on the neighbor's sailboat, then the crew will search forever for where it should sit.

You must be kidding. If there is a pin in the deck and you can not find it where it has gone missing - it is a trip to the mast. It is always a dangerous stuff to go up 15 - 20 m high from the deck and people can get serious injuries. Similar idea is to splash a half a litre of diesel/petrol in a motor boats engine room... funny stuff trying to find the leak - or is it?

From your channel one gets a feeling that you are a captain with good skills, good seamanship and willing to help others etc. Keep up with the good work with youtube and hope to see you and Aurora crew in Finland - or maybe when we come to Stockholm archipelago after this covid chaos.

Hi Chris! Always a pleasure to watch your videos!! I really appreciate your humble approach. You mention the U-bolts were coming loose. Years back someone show me a simple trick which is not as good as the seizing wire, but certainly faster and in truth, achieves the goal of keeping the pins from unscrewing during use. They placed a small plastic wire tie through the hold in the end of the pin and through the center of the U-bolt. True, the plastic is not as durable as the wire and I wouldn't use this method for an ocean crossing, but they'll certainly last for a season of boating in the Nordics and they are much easier to get off than seizing wire. 🙂

Those screw in pins on the shackles that you were checking - you mentioned u-bolts a few times - any point in putting some thread lock on them?

Hi Steve, why didn't I think of that! :) Sounds like a good idea but no one seems to have mentioned it before... interesting. Maybe these is a reason

One of the best leisure activities when you have secured the boat - is to relax with a drying and watch other boats manoeuvre into their berths.😉

Hi Norman. Yes, we have noticed that there seem to be an almost wish to see others fail. Not saying we are not watching, like you can see here, but there is often a lot to learn and we always try and give a hand where we can. Cheers, Chris & Tanja

It is supper easy to tie the u-bolts with Cable Ties - I do this for the most critical ones. I have heard that on longer passages some use Loctite 248 or similar product.

Not having enough line, I know that feeling... when connecting the "ankarolina" in the back and having it rolling out moving along towards the bridge and then bang! full stop 3 meters left and the roll back there is empty! Then trying to back at the same time as rolling in the line and having it tangled in the propeller as well in the process... :S that was one of those moments one should have sold tickets to the show. :)

I agree with you on the jib performing really well. On our 348 we often also only sail with that. I really love your code zero sheets, I’m not happy with ours, so looking to replace them. What brand and make are they? Thanks 😊
@SailingAurora
@SailingAurora 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Thank you for your comment. Our Code Zero is from Elvstrøm Sails, unfortunately it ripped in half during the summer. Luckily for us it turned out to be a warranty case and they have changed the way they manufacture the Code 0, and we have received our new Code 0 from Elvstrøm that we are so looking forward to use this summer. Good luck with finding a new Code 0. Cheers, Chris & Tanja

@@petertoftager-larsen8532 Hi Peter, yup I think Tanja got the wrong end of the question, sorry. The sheets I think were from Liros, if you look in the catalog you can probably match the pattern. Doghouse marine supplied them, give Niklas a quick call at Svinninge if you can't find them and he will be able to tell you the exact rope. It could be the Liros Racer Vision, that the closest I could match. Hope it helps, BR Chris www.lirosropes.se/pdf/lirosropes-katalog/html5.html#page/12

Finnhamn is one of the more classic and popular locations in the Stockholm Archipelago :) Personally i usually anchor in Paradiset and take the dinghy to shore, there is so much movement i've had my anchors pulled up by others a number of times when tying up to shore.
