Bravo, Madeline! Was glad to see you mentioned Fixin, one of my favorite sources of (relatively) cheap Burgundy.

Personally I like the cooler vintages in Burgundy because Pinot turns too jammy in the hot years and looses it's acidity and red fruit character. 2017 and 2019 are my favourites.

While the rest of the world makes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and some of it is quite good, the benchmark is still Burgundy. Everyone who is serious about exactly what certain wines should taste like, should spring for the occasional bottle from the region of the world that makes the best of those two grapes and that is of course Burgundy. Good video as usual.

I've had a sneaking suspicion for some time, but I don't know enough about wine to make any claims. But I know more about cigars, and in that world, big buck new world interests have been hammering the Cuban reputation for so long now that many smokers, particularly Americans, think that new world tobacco is on par with and even better than Cuban. This is nowhere near true, but I honestly don't see why I would tell anyone. It's hard enough to get Habanos as it is. It would not surprise me if some of the same mechanics apply to France and her wine.

I had a White 2019 Marsault from Louis Jadot and it was hands down the best white I’ve ever had. Crazy bold flavours unlike anything I’ve ever tasted.

Perfect video to resume burgundy and to work on my english ! But just a little correction, only Pouilly-Fuissé is in 1er cru in the mâconnais for the moment, but Im sure that Pouilly-Loché and Pouilly-Vinzelles will follow soon 🔥😀

Great Burgundy info. We spent a week in Beaune what a fantastic trip! BUT if your favorite Pinot is Meiomi 🤮, you may not like the lean earthy minerality of Burgundy Pinots.

I'll drink Gamay over Pinot every time. I will always enjoy a red Burgundian wine, but the price-to-taste ratio for Beaujolais is just hard to beat, and its perfect for having friends over and having conversations with them, but Burgundy IS the conversation, and that more often than not isn't what I want. Almost zero of the people i know are winos. So i want to bring friends in with a nice wine and offer a drink of something that is far more approchable to the masses.

Unfortunately, I think the majority of Burgandy wines are overpriced nowadays. You mention that winemakers care, but I get the impression that many of them don't care, precisely because their wines still sell, being from Burgandy. The most unenthusiastic winemakers at wine salons in France have always been from Burgandy, but that's just my limited personal experience, of course.

Great comment! I love how you are aware of the overconfidence we're seeing in some popular regions. Burgundy, as a famous area worldwide, definitely has some "jaded rockstars" who rest on their laurels. However, in the brands with avid followings, I'm seeing quite the opposite. Passion. Enthusiasm. But I do agree, it's probably the most prickly region to just walk up to and be curious about. I think that's partially why we made this video. Like, now that you know the secrets about Burgundy, what subregion would you investigate? That's what I'm hoping for.

@@winefolly Oh and you succeeded! I'm now very much curious about the new premiers crus of the Maconnais region, and you reminded me to explore the cremants. Thank you for this video. Also, have you tried Joblot? I think they are a great value!
