I can so relate to this video as I've been receiving my shipments from Burgundy and Saint Emilion currently. I've received 48 out of my 54 bottles so far of mostly burgundian whites and reds. Great choice in the 2005 Brane Cantenac! I just drank it about a month ago and it drank incredibly well, better than the 1995 Chateau Mouton and 1995 Chateau Haut Brion that I opened around the same time. That Chave should be drinking well right now also. Enjoy!

Loved the 2001 vintage for Napa Cabs as they had Power. Then the 2002 vintage arrived with all that Complexity. Though I scored the vintages the same, they were so different. I started loving the 2001s and then after a few years, preferred the 2002s. A few years ago, someone mentioned that the 2001s were really drinking well. I didn't have any more so I don't know about that. Look forward to your tastings.

Amazing. And I agree. Love opening shipments. I’ve never had 7 cases show up at one time, but it may be my new goal 😂😂😂. Question, how do you guarantee provenance when getting your aged wines?
@OurPourDecisions2 ай бұрын
This is a great question. The truth is that provenance is not guaranteed (despite a popular slogan) unless you get it straight from the winery, the importer, or a negociant. It's one of the hardest part of wine collecting and clearly something that is very frustrating. And even when the bottle is bad - you can't always know if it was a fake, poor storage, or just a bad bottle. I will usually inquire about the source if I'm buying a very expensive bottle. Also be very careful when there are certain bottles that are frequently traded. It scares me when I see empty bottles of Pappy and DRC for sale on Ebay for $100-200. I would think these empty bottles are only sold for counterfeiting purposes.
@carlcadregari77682 ай бұрын
@ yeah. It has to be buyer beware especially with news like the recent counterfeit wine arrests in Italy. Maybe a section in a future post on the best steps to take to minimize risk when buying cult, old and/or expensive wines might be something interesting for your followers. Anyhow, very fun post as usual, and if you’re ever interested in adopting an east coast wine geek……….😎😎😎

As a dane I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on Pingus as it is a very famous wine in Denmark!
@mikaelplaysguitar2 ай бұрын
I definitely share the joy of unboxing wine deliveries, although my preferred way of purchasing wine is to go to a nice wine store. Seeing the Pingus gave me two ideas for a future video: 1) Danish winemakers. Frank Cornelissen's Etna Rosso wines have cult status. I'm sure there are one or two more out there that you can find. 2) Iconic Spanish wines. Add Vega Sicilia Unico and LdH Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva to the Pingus and you're good to go. Marqués de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva could also be an option.

I really enjoy your videos. Not too serious, plenty of great wines to critique with some great background info/ graphics. I was wondering if you will do a deep dive on Super Tuscans ( i presume this has been asked before). Perhaps a blind tasting of Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Flaccianello della Pieve Tenuta Fontadi, Massetino/ Masseto, Solaia, Redigaffi Tua Rita. Vintage wise I would go with your gut. 2021 is shaping up to be an incredible year (and I am fortunate to have obtained a view of these)- but too young to show off just yet :)
@OurPourDecisionsАй бұрын
Great suggestion. We're going to do a Masseto vs. Petrus, which should be fun. We have the '00 Petrus. Any suggestion for the Masseto vintage?
@jstmartАй бұрын
@@OurPourDecisions what a wonderful idea! As I said before 2021 is looking like it will be spectacular but only time will tell. I would go with 2001 if you can get hold of a bottle or else the 2006 . Both superb vintages and similar age to the Petrus which to be honest, they should give a run for its money ;) I would also purchase a bottle of a more recent vintage of Massetino to compare them to. It's much underrated compared to its big brother or at least it was until the 2022 came out this year! Anything up to the 2020 vintage should be coming into its drinking window by now.

It would be interesting to see how the Taylor Port is. I had a 1946 Taylor many years ago and it was amazing. I had the glass by accident. I ordered a glass of Taylor Port and was given the 1946 instead of the much newer bottle that I ordered. I tried the much younger one after and wondered why it didn’t taste anything like the 1946, and then I was told what the first glass was and it was a mistake. Lucky me!

Lived in LA in 1985 and walked into Liquor Barn -- maybe Long Beach? -- before computers were invented -- and there were two bottles of '82 Pichon-Lalande for 19.95 each. Hand sticker-priced. Walked them right up to the checkout counter. Kept my lips pressed tight. Probably doesn't say too much for my moral scruples at the time. I noticed that your wine was delivered by FedEx, what I don't understand is that you spend your money on a wine cellar but your wine is sent via a truck,airplane etc. How do know how well the temperature are controlled and if you tested the wine say in Nappa and then tested the same wine tested in your home does it taste the same ?
@OurPourDecisions2 ай бұрын
Great point. This is part of the reason why shipments are not typically made in the warmer months. In this case, we got an overnight (AM) shipment from Chicago. The temperature at departure was 50 degrees and temperature at arrival less than 60 degrees. The wine was handled at night in Memphis, which was also cool that night. My preferred method of shipment is refer trucks but even then you're subject to a lot of shaking and vibration.
