We have just spent 1 week holiday in Piemonte. It´s such a lovely place, the scenery there is just stunning! We took our gravelbikes and experiences Barbaresco and Nizza DOCG by bike ;-)

That sounds amazing and Piemonte is one of my favourite wine destinations -> but I mostly visit it in autumn! 🍂 when the truffle season starts and the beautiful fog adds extra magic to the region

Wachau is really breathtaking, I like it there a lot. I was not planning to go there this summer, but when I was writing for this video I decided that I have to do a small detour- if only to visit some of the heurigen! 🙏🏻😉

Hahaha, I always ask for a spittoon, even if one is not provided. It shouldn’t be considered as rude anywhere. In Europe, if You receive a nice service, I at least, always tip, it is not mandatory though. But last time, person was confused (at the tasting) but he did go extra mile to provide us with the best experience, so we insisted!

Last year I went to Chablis and Reims which are both fabulous in their own ways....obviously Chablis is surrounded by vineyards and it was the harvest time when we went so lots of unusual tractors driving around. I also absolutely adore Beaune as a destination (the wine bars are unbelievably good and very cheap for Burgundy wines - Raveneau 1er Cru for Eur70?) and then you can easily explore all the famous villages - we went to Pommard, Meursault and Puligny Montrachet in one short drive :-)

Burgundy and Champagne definitely have their own charm, beautiful regions, and amazing wines -> harder and harder to afford though. 😩

Hi Agnese, Great video and some wonderful places to visit. I have been fortunate that I have met and tasted with some of the great characters in the wine industry. My everlasting memory of the Northern Rhone was tasting with the late, great Georges Vernay, sat in his kitchen he kept disappearing into the cellar to emerge with yet another memorable bottle - such happy days.

I cannot say which are my favourite as I haven't experienced any yet (apart Piemonte as I was born there) but the one I'll be go to in July is Bordeaux (City + Medoc + St Emillion) and September Argentina, Mendoza. The top list of those I'd like to see afterwards are Napa, Rhone and travel around Chile.

As a Wachau aficionado I have to say that your recommendations are on point. Well done 👍🏻 If you wanna walk of the beaten paths I could recommend the Saar region where fabulous cool climate Riesling is grown on steep hills (Egon Mueller, Van Volxem, Von Orhegraven, Peter Lauer).

I just got back from Cote de Beaune, and loved it. Last year I did Ribera del Duero. It’s like the Douro, but with ancient remnants of the river all around, instead of the river as the showpiece. The wines are more expensive, but I truly love it there.

Unpopular opinion, but I wasn’t that blown away by Duoro as others here. Fully agree on Wachau though, very underrated, wine quality there is superb! Apart from that I would add Tuscany, Piemonte, Mosel and Bourgogne into the mix of my Top 5 :)

We each experience these regions differently. Douro for me currently is the top region in Europe (visually)! However, I haven’t travelled to every winemaking region, and that certainly can change.

It's hard to say which wine region is the best, as distance, location and budget are all factors. I think that the combination of a wide and winding river, plus steep slopes will always be magical; so the Douro, Rhine and Danube are all amazing. Sometimes the road less traveled or off the beaten track wine regions people appreciate you more and they can be more welcoming than the ones where they are very famous and get tons of visitors. It is always nicer to visit regions which general tourism hasn’t discovered yet. That is why Douro has changed in a way, because 15years ago, when I first visited it - there were no almost no tourists here! 😊

I would love to visit Austria or the Douro Valley, so those are definitely on my list! I think my favorite region I've visited would be Tuscany, specifically Montalcino. It was such a great trip and the wine was amazing.

Agnese, I am very surprised with the fact, You have not mentioned Piedmont. :) Especially, when we all know about Your passion to Barolo and Barbaresco wines ;) What is about Etna in Sicily, which is near the famous volcano and the town of Catania? Or Alsace, which is full of beautiful cities and villages such as Colmar, Hunawihr, Eguisheim, Mulhouse and Strasbourg? Talking about my personal favorite, it might seem boring and not too original, but I do really love Burgundy. I visited it twice and hope to return there again

I knew that someone would be asking me about Barolo. But in all honesty, I go there every year only in autumn. 🍂 I have been several times in July, and because it is a continental climate, it can become unpleasantly hot there. While in autumn every slope turns into a different color, and You can go truffle picking! Piemonte for me always in autumn. I have my own thoughts on Sicily as a travel destination though. 😉

Although average looking iron bridge, Pinhão crossing was designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1906.

Agree with Rhone Valley, and especially the Douro. The train journey from Oporto to Braganca (or vice versa) is spectacular. We enjoyed a great tasting at Taylor's lodge in Vila Nova di Gaia. My visits to Austria have not been wine oriented but an evening at the Staatsoper in Vienna was memorable. Wine trips I have particular enjoyed include: cycling the wine route in Alsace; walking the Beaujolais hills, calling at various vineyards en route; wine tasting in St Emilion; Piedmont in truffle season; Verona, Soave and around Lake Garda; Trier during a wine festival; Reims and Eperney, including a tour and tasting at Champagne Mercier, followed by a very long lunch at a two-star restaurant owned by Mercier; Tuscany at anytime of the year; Montilla in Andalusia; and, most memorably, taking a group of 14 on a wine-tasting weekend to the Loire Valley in 1989 - never again! I have no favourites, just great memories.

I am planting a wine/fruit arboretum with some 90 different grapevines, with most of the winegrapes known. I am in Hardenberg on the border with Germany and gardener from profession and a fruitjuice makers ancestry. I made good wine (1980) in the hills of Jerusalem from Sauvignon Blanc vines that were planted early 1900's. We have two winemakers and a beer company in our municipality. My purpose is to introduce the various grape varietals to the local population and to wine societies in the Netherlands. I am just on 130 square meter of garden, so a mini fruit arboretum is all that I can manage. I have a 'zimmerfrei' for inviting guests when I have something to offer to winelovers. Future wine may be produced as a natural wine. I already produced small amounts of grape fruitjuice (Glenora and Aurore) and raisins from Glenora. I do vertical training of my grapevines into my other fruittrees. In your video you discovered that Northern wines can fix 90 points, in spite of your expectation. I hope to discover that inspite of the riverdelta Vecht circumstances, the Netherlands may produce good grapejuice, good raisins, good grapejam and good red and white wine. Southern Europe is uprooting its vineyards. The Netherlands now has the climate of the Champagne region of yesteryears. I may never produce a 'great wine', but I may produce surprising wines and other grape products. Having studied the mistakes of the wine industry, my purpose is to discover the truth about growing and making of wine. Always enjoy your Vids! Agnesa.... Need to get Rhone & Porto/Douro. We (my wife and I ) were fortunate to go to Vienna years ago. And went to some family run wineries on outskirts of the city (2010)! We really liked it! I don't think we were in Wachua but still was a good experience! We love traveling to Loire Valley for casual wine tasting.. though now (2nd time there) often they even want scheduled tastings.. and sometimes a visit in cellar and vineyards!! We had some good experiences in Bordeaux too.. esp.. smaller wineries.. though of course we drove through the Medoc. A good mention is the city of Toulouse and some wineries in between when leaving Bordeaux. We didn't make it to Cahors or Madiran (i think further past Toulouse) but Fronton and Gaillac... Sudoest! There are others in other countries/regions too! Stay Well!

Portugal sounds really good and I would be happy if you could give us some specific wine recommendations and your tasting impressions 👍🏻 Currently my favorite wine regions are the regions of Australia and the Piemont, but not for the Barolo or Barbaresco. Piemont having a lot of less known specific varieties as for example Erbaluce, Nacetta or Favorita which are very interesting to taste. Also interesting is the DAC Weinviertel which have a great variety of Grüner Veltiner, one of them is aged in a acacia barrel … interesting drop.

Dear Agnes, thank U again for this intereting video. Among tour suggestions i Will take into consideration traveling to Wachau Austria which i have never visited before. I visited fashinating Douro Valley bout portuguese and spanish side. Then i had a visit in Rhone River in 2016 Nord and 2017 south. Grate memories of the Red wines from this region 🍷🍾. Finally Just come back from Ghemme and Gattinara North piedmont area which offer exciting Nebbiolo based wines. Great experience too. 😁😉

As You see, I like to talk. 😅 From Italy, I love Piemonte, You know that - but I think it is best to visit in Autumn -> not as hot anymore and You get to experience truffle season.
