Old Vegas was when Resort Casinos actually became profitable when money of Post-Reaganomics corporations outbid the heirs of Old Old Vegas. They bought out the strip, tried to clean up the Gambling/Gangster Capital and crime/vice markets such poverty creates, and advertised it as a super Family Friendly place. Themed casinos of Ancient Egypt, Medieval Times, Pirates, the exotic Orient with China and Arabia (It was called Imperial Palace and Aladdin, respectively, but is now Planet Hollywood I think), Renaissance Italy and turn of the Century France), whether you're celebrating film with MGM or enjoying theme parks and carnival nostalgia at Circus Circus. In the 90s Las Vegas appeared in EVERY major Prime Time show (The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Roseanne, The Flintstones did a movie there) and action blockbusters at the time (Con Air's climax of a plane landing on the Vegas Strip, but also stuff like Austin Powers, hell The Hangover might even be playing with this image by setting their film in Vegas). There was a massive marketing campaign to make it a family friendly place but also it sold us memories akin to how Disney was doing in the 90s and their partnership with McDonalds

@@Karan-Aujla I'm less knowledgeable about Old Old Vegas. I believe it functioned as a central distribution hub for transport of goods going through the southwest, the biggest being military, mining, settlement of places like Arizona, Los Angeles, to Santa Fe and Texas, along with Mormon settlers. It's important to remember Pre Casino Vegas was dominated by the surrounding ranching, mining, and military bases in the aftermath of the Indian removal (the wars that Geronimo fought, so, 1870s-1920s ish). What made Las Vegas (spanish for "The Plains") was that it's a relatively smooth pass through the Rockies, a sort of corridor that connected the two parts of what would become the US Southwest and was crucial for the entire area's development. Looks like Vegas didn't become a gambling city until the construction of the Hoover Damn (a project to maintain waterflow through out the Southwest, but also a means to offset unemployment during the Depression) when construction workers flooded the city for work in 1931. This is would be the beginnings of Old Old Vegas (Flamingo Hotel, Gangsters and organized crime, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and the Hollywood based tourism)

I moved to Vegas recently and unfortunately they’ve been de-campifing the Strip for years now. Like obviously a few of things that’ve been changed was because of how insensitive some of the themes were. But I do think that they’re taken it to far. It’s actually ridiculous cause the themes and campiness is a huge part of why people come here. And sadly they aren’t even really renovating the hotels to makes sure they’re still in good shape and up to code, they’re just making everything boring now. The Mirage show is gone now because they’re building a Hard Rock there. I’m pretty sure the pirate show is gone too, which kills me. I was so infatuated with that performance when I first saw it as a kid. It’s so disappointing. One thing that baffles me is that they don’t debrief the security, especially the ones who are at the meet and greet, on who’s who. Like they could just make a list with names and pictures for them to reference. It’s actually not that impossible. 😂 it’s problematic that they don’t cause y’all could be swarmed waiting out there, which is a much worse security risk in my opinion.

Elevators can only be repaired by certified elevator repairmen. Hotel maintenance can't touch it. If my hotel i work at has to wait two weeks for a repairman in Iowa i could only imagine the wait times in Las Vegas

My guess is the issue with the stairs is that once you got to the ground floor, you could only exit to the outside of the building and would have to re-enter through the lobby. Likewise, if you wanted to get off at any other floor, the doors would be locked from inside the stairwell. They do this for the same reason that the elevators require key cards to access floors that have hotel rooms.

Maya, if that slow elevator incident happened to you on Saturday it might have been because it was Shabbat. Orthodox Jews are required to rest on the sabbath, and pressing an elevator button is considered work, so they have “Shabbos elevators” that stop on every floor in places like Israel. I just did a quick Google search and it looks like Resorts World actually boasts having shabbos elevators for orthodox Jewish guests, so it was actually intended to be that way!

Oh my god it seems every elevator on that strip is messed up. A couple months ago my childhood friend had her wedding in Vegas and we all stayed at the Paris hotel. Well the night of their wedding me and a few friends were leaving her room to give her and new husband some space and to go to sleep. Our elevator just stopped suddenly while we were going down, dropped like 4 floors then stopped again. After a couple minutes of pure panic it like lurched down to the bottom floor. Me and the 2 guys that were in it are scared of elevators so that was our worst fucking nightmare lol
