it depends on how you train, not how much you train, if youre a beginner. if you train a lot but the techniques you do are wrong, then its all wasted. its quality you want, not quantity, at first. when you get the technique right, do the same technique over and over again to build muscle memory. this will help you to do any technique perfectly at any moment without thinking. good luck :)

If you need some help, this routine will help you, it's how I started :) (i edited it to make it easier to understand): When you start the training, try to stick to the first 4 lessons for 2 days in the week. Make the routine go for 30 minutes (doing the 4 exercises all in 30min together). Then after a while for exemple in the next week, you can proceed to the 5th lesson and the other lessons with kicks. (it's up to you how many days you wish to add to the routine, during a week). Then you proceed into next week, starting the other exercises in the course. When you finished these exercises each of these days, then try to train them all after each other like i do. I always do each lesson 34 times, (like the knee squat of the goat stance on the first lesson and the twist / shift on the second one, so basically like master Wong explains on the first lesson when you squat down you go one, and up, two, and up and so on. That's what I mean by doing 34 times) .Then it comes to Siu Lim Tao.. master Wong has the forms in his channel u should take a look. Im practising for like 4 years tho, keep going man everyday u will get better.

@102200041806652877382 You really can learn online :) but of course it is not the full system.. When you train and go further into it, it gets more advanced in the other lessons which is good its like you are '' getting out '' of the basics and going to a new level..but u cant learn the FULL system of course, but i also spar and do wing chun drills with people and stuff which is important. :)

I've just been doing this and lesson 1 for like 2 hours with situps inbetween, starting classes soon so trying to get back in shape a bit (lose the pot belly). My thighs are aching so bad but it's addictive. I also find holding the left and right stances for 10-20 seconds before switching to help build more muscle and strength in the thigh, I presume this won't hurt the technique so long as I hold the stance correctly :)

@fearlessftw, it's all about your thinking skills and technique. Wing chun is based on mind over matter, identifying someone's weakness is the key step for an advantage over your opponent. No one can be sure if 1 person wins or not. It's about applying your knowledge and skills of Wing Chun into reality (''think'').

@1234Colt if you learn from books or videos, the person who wrote or recorded it is your teacher somehow! He just can't follow your steps and tell you what is wrong or right, but he is your teacher! somehow he is teaching you! It's hard to see someone completely self-taught!! We can find thousand of curious people, but not 100% self-taught, with no videos, or books!! but, yeah! almost everyone started as a self-taught with nothing and no one! but your thirst for knowledge make you look for more!

I agree, I remember doing Karate and was a brown belt by the time I was 10, even assuming I knew all of the moves and could excecute them on people my age I didn't deserve it I passed the exams but I wasn't good enough or mature enough to be regarded highly in any sense. I personally think belts were originally a way for instructors with bad memories to remember what moves they were supposed to be teaching to who, not really as a mark of how good they are.

@Gatillquet True... ive been doing karate for 2 years, got my yellow belt, since 7 i train kung fu... in private lessons, and I also go to a martial arts class, that its not only one martial art like karate, kung fu, etc... but yes, a bit of each... anyway, I dont care about the belt, cause I already fought guys with black belt, did I win? No... But at least I fought with no fear, and did a good job by blocking and attacking, but of course in the end I lost, but for me it was good enough

Your front doesn't have any weight on it to start with (i don't know what he's talking about saying 30%) - So therefore, by moving in a straight line, it can move more quickly than an incoming kick, you can react to your opponent shifting his weight (the upper body moves) - block a kick with a kick. (watch the vids) - also by not having weight, the leg moves with the force kick - VS a "planted leg" which is supporting weight would absorb the whole kick and possibly break.

I don't think so. Using a horse stance you necessarily have to shift your weight onto just one leg in order to lift the other to kick. Therefore signalling to a (skilled) opponent your intention to kick. If your weight is already on your back leg then you can strike instanly, and quicker. The masters are SO good at shifting their weight around... Wing Chun is very technical, and very well thought out, you'd have to take lessons to really learn anything though. There's SO much to it.

I'm not exactly well versed in Wing Chun... but here is my reasoning: If you put your weight in the front, your kick/punch/whatever might be more powerful, but it's similar to poke checking in Lacrosse, if you lunge at your opponent with your weight forward, they simply step to one side, and then you're on the ground.

@1234Colt well... if you are a student, you have a teacher!! you can't be a student without a teacher!! =D But if you have talent, if you born with talent and know it, and search about what you like to do, and do well, you don't need a teacher! But if you want to improve what you learned and be the best, you'll need a teacher! =D

@Inconitoo Wing chun isn't based on raw power. It was made for weaker people to fight stronger people. If you focus all on how powerful your attacks are it becomes a test of brute strength which is good if your larger but not if your smaller. With Wing chun you stay balanced while unbalancing your opponent.

wut if someone pushes you. hte weight in the back leg will become unsable and you will fall. you need like at least 30 percent in order to keep some balance. then this way when you kick, you can have power and you wont fall on your ass. then later when you to more of the offensevive shiz, you can be stable and you wont need to worry about ground fighting.

@Gatillquet I completly agree. "Danial -san: What kind of belt to you have? Mr. Miyagi: J.C. Penny, 5 dollar 95cent. In Okinawa belt means no need rope to hold up pants" It may be a trite quote, but very applicable. Master Wong, also many thanks for uploading this video. Your generousity is much appreciated.

Problem for me is there aren't any places that teach Wing Chun where I live (Vancouver/Richmond, Canada) ... I don't know if I should be following these vids. I have never done any form of martial arts in my life, and Wng Chun has peaked my interest over the past year

well you add on so you can take away: for example, let's say you're a card magician. There are tricks that are amazing, but don't hold your audience's attention so you stop using and practicing those tricks. At the same time you have to learn them before you can decide whether they are useful or not.

@Oliiiverr i dont think the belts were colored. it was just that you started with a white belt, then you trained so long and hard, youd eventually get dirt on it and finnnaly it would get black. that is according to what research ive looked into

Up until Jigoro Kano invented the belt ranking system in the 1900's when he invented Judo there really was no belt system. A belt ranking system is common in Japanese-Okinawan and Korean martial arts. Up until modern times it was not common to see a belt system in Gung Fu. In modern day most systems have a ranking system but in the ancient times the belt was for holding up your pants instead of a rope that s all.
