Great content as usual, and like you have a great love of all the same sports. However, to have all the kit to hand required my kids would not eat and I would have nowhere to live! So it's great to see you clearly demonstrating what's out there. I mainly windsurf, my wife got me a kite boarding instructions sessions for my birthday, then told me she would divorce me if I bought kites etc! 🤔😃

I was asked this before so thought I’d been doing… in this one at 1min33 it shows bft3 on the screen- the means Beaufort force 3, that’s 8-12 knots. 👍👍👍

Good stuff, Cookie! I'd love to see more videos on wing foiling. I bought some gear about a month ago and I think I went too small on the board as I've been struggling to stay up (it's 105L, 5'6") . I'm a windsurfer but I've never done any foiling so winging has proven to be much more difficult than I expected.
@Cookiesports3 жыл бұрын
Very small board to start with, but maybe rent a board for a few sessions and you’ll be ready for the 105!

🏄♂🤙very cool video! I have the same RRD setup, just with a Y26 2000 front wing, which foil mast position would you recommend? cheers
@Cookiesports5 ай бұрын
Foil mast position depends on power V weight… start in the middle… you need more lift (underpowered) pull the foil mast further back… the board is lifting uncontrollably (overpowered) put it further forward 🤙🤙
@GR-nu7jx5 ай бұрын
@@Cookiesportsthanks! I’ve tried to foil with it recently, the lift was outrageous and it literally jumped out of the water. So I did a rodeo 😂 At the spot the wing surfers told me the board seems to have a bit different trim, with more weight/volume on the back. But in case of the foil mast it could mean a shift of 1 inch back.
@bobobobo9684 ай бұрын
@@Cookiesports cheers! it worked out. The foil is very stable in the flight. It seems the board needs a bit more speed to take off comparing to other boards. I can not explain why, the shape looks perfect..

I’m trying to decided between the Pocket Rocket 120 liter or the Beluga 105 liter. I plan to wing, but also windsurf. I’m 75kg and have decades of experience windsurfing, and used to be a sponsored kiteboarder in the early to mid 2000s. I also surf and snowboard. Thoughts?
@Cookiesports2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you’re looking for a board to do a bit of both I’d choose the pocketrocket from those two… however given a free choice I’d pick the starboard x-foil wing over them both!
@PinchTune2 жыл бұрын
@@Cookiesports Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking that up. A Starboard wave board is what I used to windsurf often back in the early 2000s... Also, Airush was part of Starboard back then... maybe they still are? I was on the Airush team back in 2003 or 2004 or so. Back when I wan on Maui. I still have the catalog somewhere.

Any specific reason why the Starboard over the RRD? I do like that the RRD is shorter. I would love to be right under 6 foot so it fits in the back of my truck without leaning against the tailgate.

Yes let's have some more wing foiling tips! Also Simon how much breeze do you think it takes to get going on your 6.5 acx? I'm trying to plan out a wing foil quiver to go with my regular windsurfing gear, my current max sail size is 6.5
@Cookiesports3 жыл бұрын
Mid bft3 I can get going on the ACX 6.5m- providing of got a large board & fin. The start of this video you see me on the 6.5 ACX P-7, marginally going on & off- and the wing with 5m and large front wing was going consistently.

What about wing foiling vs. wind foiling, that is, with a windsurfing sail? I've been working hard on learning wind foiling, mostly because I'm familiar with windsurfing, but am intrigued by the wing foils. Wing foiling appears to be easier to learn. I've gotten so I can stay on the foil pretty well using my windsurfing kit, but jibing is difficult. You said jibing the wing is easier. Am I working on the wrong sport?
@Cookiesports3 жыл бұрын
The learning curve is much quicker on a wing for sure. However you’re not doing the wrong sport, they’re just different ones! I’m not progressing much at basketball, doesn’t mean I should take up golf! 😜

For a dedicated windsurfer / windfoiler such as myself, the question may more often than not come down to: how should I add winging to the repertoire, rather than if. That is to say, should I substitute winging for low wind foiling? Or should I use it as a means of dial into mid-high level winds and have the kind of fun that would normally be reserved for kiting? My answer would be the latter. I feel that windfoiling is a more efficient endeavour in low winds and gets messy as wind cranks up (say 17 knots plus), and winging really comes into its own (in all departments: whether straight line blasting or freestyle) only then....
@AngusMcIntyre3 жыл бұрын
My experience is that, initially, winging is the high wind sport while you learn. However, with the same size rig and foil the wing will get you going with more marginal conditions. It won't replace an IQ Foil setup for speed or efficiency but its almost entirely replaced windfoiling for me.
