I've seen comments about how hard it is to see the blind cap on a Lamy 2000 credited to "German engineering". My three 601's have the same disappearing seam for the blind cap. "Chinese engineering" must be catching up. Thanks for showing me how to take them apart.
@ForTheLoveOfPens Жыл бұрын
Happy to help! Lamy conceals the blind cap by applying the brushed texture after the pen is fully assembled, whereas the 601s just have very tight tolerances. I suspect each component might also come out of the same family mold so the colors are a perfect match.

Looks like a great alternative to the rotring drawing pens. I want to order one and try it in a moleskine pad during an urban sketch session. Thanks for showing .

Nice Which paper you use for writing?? Yesterday i also ordered Wingsung 601,629,etc from ebay
@ForTheLoveOfPens Жыл бұрын
Congrats, it is a fun pen to collect! I typically use a 120 GSM paper, but this writing sample was just with standard copy paper. I figure most people will have access to that.

Between the two 601 and 601A which one would you recommend?
@ForTheLoveOfPens5 ай бұрын
I personally prefer the nib on the original 601. The 601As that I’ve had (tubular style) both needed nib tuning and also I don’t love how they marked the nib with “Made in China”
@raviykrishna5 ай бұрын
@@ForTheLoveOfPens And post tuning of 601A did it work as good as the 601's. I see u mentioned for the 601 that it worked good even after months of non use :)
@ForTheLoveOfPens5 ай бұрын
@@raviykrishna both are pretty comparable in how long the nib stays wet when capped. Naturally your mileage will vary depending on how you tune it.

Congrats on your new channel. The quality is comparable to the big guys. The 601 is one of my favorite pens. So much that I bought it is various colors to match the ink. “Bobby” (StPennPPS) sells nibs that fit the hooded 601 and the various Jinhao 51 clones. The nibs come in various sizes for those who wanted a medium or broad nib. I’m OK with the EF nib that comes with the pen. It’s actually pretty smooth for an EF.
@ForTheLoveOfPens Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the complement! I have swapped in the “Bobby” nibs in the past. They are really fun to write with, but tend to lay thicker lines than I like for daily use.

So if I understand correctly, the hooded nib is smoother and more reliable than the tubular one in this model, right?
@ForTheLoveOfPens7 ай бұрын
In my experience yes, but the hooded nibs are not very consistent in line width

It is an interesting model, with a plethora of differing nib finishes, but the most striking element for me, was the tubular nib - so redolent of the Sheaffers of yesteryear. The classic hooded nib version is just a copy of the original 51, with the exception of the filling mechanism, & what strikes me most about this model is the rentention of the slip cap - the modern contemporary Parker 51's have a screw cap, & frankly, I do not see the point of such a modification; I like my original 1950's & '60's Parkers - one with a rolled gold cap, the other, Lustraloy. I'd certainly consider all of the models featured, but avoid the all-metal bodied versions - & just because I prefer the texture/colour combinations that the plastic barrels offer. Wing Sung seem to have produced a cheaper alternative to it's American progenitor - & with more finish options; the nibs seen all have (minor) tuning issues, but like you, I tend to strip all my pens down for a specifically attuned writing performance, that is my own. Excellent presentation !
@ForTheLoveOfPens Жыл бұрын
Well put! I also really like the look of the tubular nib (except for the heavy branding). These are really fun to collect, and an affordable pen to tinker with and tune.
@andrewtongue7084 Жыл бұрын
I agree, it's a nice touch (the branding always appears overdone with many SE Asian scribes - but, that, in & of itself is no crime - I guess I prefer subliminal design); in retrospect to my previous comment, I'd certainly purchase one, & it's always fun to modify/improve certain scribes. Enjoy the remainder of your day !

Monteverde blue black run dry
@ForTheLoveOfPens Жыл бұрын
I tried watermen intense black (which is usually wet) and it still ran dry. QC on custom nibs at this cost point is pretty tricky. I spent some time with a loop to make sure everything was aligned and ended up bending the nib down to get better contact with the feed. Seems to be working well now.
