Great job, Mike!! I 'm an old construction guy (70+ yrs old). If I was a little younger and lived near you, I would love to come over and give you a hand! (not that you need it - it would be for my enjoyment) I love your work ethic, attention to detail, and how you are always teaching and explaining why you are doing what you do! The other bigger channels have nothing on you, and you are one of my favorite channels!! Keep up the good work!!

Brilliant Vid Mike, that is one crossing done correctly. You could explain to the keyboard engineers, the culvert pipe is engineered to be very strong in compression. It is essentially a triangle with the pointy bit at top, it is engineered to be stronger with increasing load. the load is shed across the sides of the embankment. The foundation rocks on both sides of the culvert are NOT cemented. That is would b a mistake. The water is designed to flow around and out of the wall, the pea gravel facilitates this. these rocks are sufficiently large to ensure they will never be washed away. It is designed to be permeable. If it was a watertight structure it would collapse with freeze\thaw cycles. and the loads would be behind the structure instead of the front. It is a residential structure, and you can see it holds up to heavy machinery very very well. incidentally, I found a galvanised metal fence post in my back yard, its been lying buried for 50 years and it looks brand new, just off the shelf. My parents had pix of the fence being built all that time ago.

As an FYI for future reference, the Army Corps of Engineers did a study of all pipe materials back in 1986. Concerning corrugated metal pipe and applicable coatings, they concluded that aluminumized coated cmp (not straight aluminum) outlasted all other coating types by 2 - 6 times the servicelife. It's better than galvanized and around 5% more cost.

Well Mr smarty, some of those watching have experience in these issues, it has nothing to do with wings, the object here is enough flow of water, compared to how much water he will get, if the road gets topped due to higher water flow than his culvert will carry, road failure will happen.
@SirensC33 ай бұрын
@@rustysdirtworks8398 nobody cares. Seriously absolutely nobody cares. The guy that built it doesn’t. It is done and filmed and posted. And nobody else cares about your comment either. 99.99% of viewers are never gonna build something like this. And those that do probably already know how. This isn’t a video on how to fix a broken mirror on your car. So nobody cares.

Very nice job, but that's what you expect from a stone mason, we have walls in the UK that were put up 100's of years ago, no mortar that are still standing strong today, it's what stone mason's do.
@chrisoakey98413 ай бұрын
Why not move the excavator so you can see? And you should use some concrete with nylon reinforcing fibres to stick between the rocks. And if you want it to last forever, use the pipe as your firm, and concrete it with waterproof fibre reinforced concrete. Then when the pipe rusts no problem as the concrete will last.
