I agree that using a longboard as a tow in on waves with the Wing is far more fun…. I too like the roots feel of being on the water.

Thanks for watching. Yeah. I wish I could spend more time with it and figure out how to get it going.

As a step in my learn-to-wingfoil journey, I retrofitted a centerboard on my iSUP. It does not plane. Maybe if I tried with a rigid board. But! I'm able to return to where I started from. 200L board with a 4.4m wing on a lake (no huge waves or swell), 20kts of wind. Either way, you do need speed, else you'll drift. But any wing bigger than 5m will have its edge touch the water no matter what you do. So I don't see it coming up as a sport on its own right, more of an in-between step towards foiling.

Did you already find out more about that?

Thanks for asking. Honestly I have not. Tjere has been so many other things. I just need to take this board in 30kts of wind and a 5m wing and see what happens. Thanks for the reminder. 🤙🏽

Yeah need some mini foil wing option for sure… sure someone will develop an option

Thanks for watching. They have options for beginners but these boards don’t plane i think.

Don’t you need a dagger board. Mid placed fin to go upwind?
@StandUpMagazin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. At low Speed Need a dagger board for sure. I think if I get it to plane i will be able to sail Up Wind.

A board with sharp rails and some flat in the rocker towards the tail will need much less power to get going. But the turning will get worse.

@@borges4662 Thanks for watching. Yes lots of RnD, sadly I am not a board builder to experiment around.

A Guy is already doing that, he put footstraps on a shortboard or a bit Bigger board, he surf and jump with it....

Thanks for watching... I for sure have to try this more.

Exactly my thoughts. When I started out last year, practicing on a large windsurf board with the wing it certainly felt like I could make it plane. But it seems tricky. Here is the video of the guy someone mentioned below. It says he went in 30+ knots with a 5m^2 wing, which is crazy. But he's definitely planing :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGWqhKujjrF0oJY

Thanks for watching and support. Yes this is the video of Kai Lenny, he also did the same thing out at Pe'ahi. I keep seeing more and more videos like this. The last one I saw was a guy on a skimboard in shallow waters.

Yes it’s almost impossible to get a paddle board onto a plane because it’s got too much rocker! , I have been wind surfing for 42 years since 1982 and kite boarding since 1999 and winging for the last five years so when I started winging, immediately I wanted to see if I could go really go fast and blasting on a 130 liter slalom board with my wing, and I found out through trial and error that definitely you have to have a windsurfing board that has flatter rocker that’s what gets you get on top of the water because most surfboards and SUps have a lot of rocker not designed at all to plane fast and get up on a plane!!! So I used a 6 m wing in about 15 to 20 mph and I was blasting !! I also have experimented in lighter winds with the Windsurfer LT, which is the fastest of all gliding long boards 12‘ x 29“ wide and of course I put the dagger board down just a little bit about 45° angle down the LT flies. It is got the fastest of all longboard rocker and it’s very easy to turn for a 12 foot board because it’s got real rounded thin rails in the front. So I just wanna let everybody know it’s possible to get up and haul fast with a wing without a foil, but you just gotta have a really flat fast rocker and a lot of width!! the power comes from the length of the rail, and of course the rocker line and of course, the width that combination get you up on top of the water fast with a wing!!
