Hasek is my favorite athlete of all time, and no one will ever be able to usurp him, I was sad he left the Sabres, but I was so god-damned happy he got his Cup that year

Imagine Hasek on those post lockout Sabres teams when they actually had some firepower? Felt like Buffalo was always short a goal scorer or two in the late 90's that might have gotten them over the top. Hasek did what he could and kept them in a ton of games they probably had no business being in.

Yeah, by the time they met again in the playoffs (2008), it felt different since most of the guys from the late 90's/early 2000's wars were long gone. I don't think we'll ever see a rivalry like that again. It's just a different game now.

@@ShenmueAtheist I sort of feel the same, but I wonder if it’s not, at least in my case, just as much that it was at the right time of my life. Up until about 30 years of age, which in my case was 2001, I found new music, enjoyed the new films coming out and was able to follow and enjoy lots of different leagues in different sports. After that, I still try to keep up with new stuff, but more and more look back toward the “golden era”, which, according to me, is the nineties (give or take e couple of years) for music as well as film and sports. This feel like such a big coincidence that I’m inclined to think it’s actually me who peaked then, and not everything else.
