Great video! Bilingual too! (Unless you teach her a bit of Spanish since we're in OC, then she'd be multilingual.) Smokey is so 👏 wonderful. To see her now able to really fly must make you so happy ... and she seems to be liking it! Give her head scratches from an old lady fan in Santa Ana. Your new home is such a blessing for all. So beautiful too. P.S. Glad you're not free flying her.

You and Smokey are my favorites on youtube.com. That being said, until recently, I hadn't had a bird since I was a kid (born in 1949 and going on 19). Now I have adopted (been) an African Gray parrot. It was acquired in about 1987, so its' not a baby. It has issues but seems to be getting over them and getting used to us. Not a talker but vocalizes with my wife (and bit her once) dearly loves peanuts in the shell has a little taste for fresh veggies but is about to be switched to a veggie breakfast and pellet supper. Smokey has a red tail feather where as mine is black with inner red lines, whats the deal I wonder. jh

Also tip for people looking to make their own perches. Make sure you get bird safe wood types since not all wood is safe for all birds. Once you do that and soak/clean your wood it's really satisfying to make a perch. That one is a really cool branch. I'm jealous. XD

Hey man! Love seeing smokey progress and love watching the relationship you have with her. As someone who's for years been researching birds (African Grey in particular) I wanted to ask as someone who seems to be attune to your bird who seems to be incredibly content. What you daily/weekly routine is? I do understand all the basics that's not what I am asking to focus on. More like how much time a day do you try to have with her. What you like to do to keep her trained and then spoilt each day. What is your feed routine like. How much you spend with her out around you. Etc. Just with such a happy bird and you so close with her it would be good to see what is a really great baseline to her daily care and interaction. I realise this is a big video if you did it but I think it would be amazing for information from someone who personally own a African Grey and is attuned to his bird. Cheers!

I agree with you on not free-flying African Greys. I have one and I would never free-fly mine. They're heavy body birds and noisy fliers, plus they're difficult to see against the sky. Smoky is amazing! Quick ques. How do you get her to speak on command? Ex. When you say- Can you chirp?" and she chirps, whereas, most bird will mimick or repeat what you say, "can you chirp." I'd love to know how to teach my 2 parrots that technique. Thanks so much!
@wingsNpaws3 жыл бұрын
I have a video on that! Basically, once your bird learns a new word, they'll usually repeat it over and over. What I do is I sit around and wait for her to say it and when she does, I use a clicker to "click and reward". Eventually, she'll say it even more! At that point, I attach a cue right before she says it and then only click and reward when she says it when the cue is given. This is a really short version so hope it makes sense!

She is a wonderful, well trained bird! Is there no regulation about not keeping a grey alone? If you would live in Germany they would come and take your bird and give you a fine of 2000€ for not keeping her with a partner bird. Greys live in couples and to keep one alone is pure cruelty. It has nothing to do with how good your bond is, how many time you spend with her and how big her cage is etc. Please buy her a Partner as soon as possible! Maybe you can open a go fund me for this, I would contribute...
@wingsNpaws3 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with you. In the US, that is not the law as it is in Germany. However, I think it's a good idea. I do intend to get Smokey a feathered friend.

I would love a moment of your time. My Grey is about 19 years old. Male?? I got him from a pet store and he did not have a band. Pretty sure he was wild caught. 😥😥 when I bought him, I didn’t realize it was a thing 😥😥. You may have read my previous text posts. My bird has been trapped in his cage for several years due to unforeseen circumstances. Once I realized he NEVER got out of his cage, I brought him home to me. (Husband is pissed cuz he has been bitten too many times). Since Turkey has been home, he has been out of his cage every day. And has fallen in love with my husband. Even though hubby does his best not to Interact. 😂 Turk constantly fear bites. Help?

Hi! I understand how frustrating it must be to see your bird pluck and not know how to correct it. I would first suggest finding a good avian vet to rule out nutrition and/or medical reasons. Where does your bird pluck?

@@wingsNpaws hi again!!! Thank you for responding!!! He will literally sit there and pluck his whole back and his beautiful red feathers completely out and also his chest. It’s starting to worry me because we have had him since I was 3 years old. Let’s just say I turned 30 last week. So a good 27 years we have had him lol. I just want to help him. My African Grey calls for me when I leave the room. BUT...unfortunately he decided to change his call to the fire alarm after mine went off. Nikola has now been doing this for 7 months!!!!!! I tried rewarding positive behavior and ignoring negative, but he still does it. And now he just does it a lot at night (it went off at night). I ignore the behavior to not reinforced it, but that is not working. His cage is in the living room area, so he gets lots of attention. Nikola has a few more behaviors I need help changing. Please email me so I can go into more detail. I trust your help.
