Live from Daryl's House is amazing and so much fun to watch. I highly recommend all the episodes. Daryl ain't just a singer, he's talented multi-instrumentalist! All the 'shows' are great with top talent in the various 'house bands'. The list of artists who drop by to play is astounding. My favorite is the Joe Walsh episode.

Daryl Hall was from Kimberton, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He went to Kimberton High School. Which is where my ex-wife graduated from. Years after Daryl Hall and John Oates became famous they came back and rocked Kimberton high school. Very cool. Daryl fell in love with Sarah Cox. Sarah lived in Tiburon California. I helped her move. She was beautiful. I could see why he would pay the devil to replace her. Would you cry a while for me Sarah. Funny what a small world it is. Six Degrees of Separation.

You reminded me of a time when genuine talent mattered; I'm not fully sure if it does now. Great analysis Fil, "meet in the middle". John Oates has a country-folk blues influence, while Daryl Hall has more of the Philly soul but also used to play a mean mandolin. So if you listen to their very earliest stuff, it sounds totally unique. Good examples: "When the morning comes" and "Had I known you better then"

"Maneater" was originally conceived by John Oates as a reggae style tune. He took the song to Daryl and they work on it some more....the rest is history. If you search for a more recent john Oates solo version of "Maneater", you'll hear that the song has gone back, more or less, to its original style. Also on display with the more recent John Oates solo version is just how good of a guitarist he is.

Love Hall and Oates. Love John Oates solo, you really should cover him. He's much more than what he appears with Daryl Hall. His solo material is a 180 from H&O.

H2O was the duos' first digitally-recorded album and they took advantage of the new technology, while working around its limits of the time. H2O, VOICES and PRIVATE EYES have been issued in ultra high resolution Super Audio CD discs by Mobile Fidelity (while supplies last) and vinyl, though ironically, MoFi issued VOICES on CD decades ago. Great albums like these deserve such treatment, as do their older albums and concerts like this and the stunning TROUBADOUR show you noted that is still one of the best concerts ever issued on Blu-ray. Hopefully we'll see more remastering soon. After all, they are the most successful duo in music history! Thanks fro yet another great video Fil!

I’ve always loved Hall and Oates. I remember asking a babysitter while listening to the radio back in the day, “what’s ‘One on One’ mean?” She answered, “it’s a basketball game”. For many years after I thought Hall and Oates sung a song about basketball. 🏀😏

Love the 80's music. This and Duran Duran's hit Her Name Is Rio, aways went together subject wise. Btw have you analyzed Duran Duran yet? Thanks Fil for doing this video...great as usual.

Thanks Phil...... Another good one. Oat's is actually a pretty good guitarist. I like" Daryl's house" too. One of my favorite YT stops. other than your channel. 👍

John Oates is a great guitarist, he's been playing since the age of 5 (he's now 72). He plays a lot of finger picking style with his solo band, the Good Road Band.

I'm not musical myself, but I love to watch finger pickers, I find the style fascinating. I especially love watching Lindsey Buckingham play, and I also love to watch banjo player, both pickers and clawhammer style. I wish I had been blessed with the talent, I'm not, but I sure have a deep appreciation of it.

There are so many great hidden gems off the early Hall & Oates albums that are just severely underrated.

This song started out as a reggae song. They changed it to this in the studio. There are reggae and a blues version on KZbin performed by John Oates. Look for them. They are great alternate versions that show how a song can evolve from the page to the studio.
