John Hall went to Congress for a district in Ulster County, NY, which includes Woodstock in 2007 and served a second term, leaving in 2011. He also did a tremendous amount for the environment, organizing a group to fight a nuclear plant that was planned to be put on the Hudson River, among other efforts. He's a great musician, but also a terrific citizen.

Their harmonies were great! Still The One and Love Takes Time all demonstrated super vocals. Orleans came out of Woodstock, NY in 1972. As a lifelong New Yorker if I tell you the talent that emerged from that neck of the woods over the years, it would astound you. After drummer Wells left, Jerry Marotta went i. Yep, Rick';s brother and great drummer of post-Genesis Peter Gabriel.

Another timeless song...thanks Fil, for breaking it down for us..I bought this record when it first came out...played the 45 over and over getting the words written out...my Dad in his 60s played in a band most of his life, and after hearing this song... he added it to their song list...when generations can see the same beauty in a song it is truely timeless. This song makes you want to drift off dancing, it truely makes you want to pick your feet up and float off to the music. It's just so light, and feels like something you heard in a past life, or dream. Ticks all the feel good boxes. Thanks again.

I just discovered this analysis today. Where have i been? I am so glad you are analyzing this great song. I loved the three part, harmonies of Orleans -- always in tune -- , and their tasty musical arrangements (that guitar/melodica lick at the end is so good!). You don't hear many melodica solos in pop music, but it gives a very unique flavor. I loved the softer side of Orleans as well as their rockier side with John and Larry's dueling electric guitars.. Their lyrics were always uplifting. So many great songs, not just the hits.. One of my favorite bands of all time. Was so sorry to hear that Larry Hoppen is no longer with us...Thanks, Fil. You have such impeccable taste in music and a great way of explaining why a song is as good as it is. Much gratitude to you.

I've always loved this song as the elements you detailed are my idea of "70s songs" at their best. Melodic, harmonious, tuneful guitar fils, for me listening to the bass runs like another vocalist. Your guitar and vocal demos are great! When I toyed around with songwriting I thought my melodies might evolve when I stole from songs with intricate chord changes. Let's just say I enjoy the magic and didn't get the gift to create melody, but I sure appreciate it when I hear it.
