We saw Jerry a few years back at the Isle of capi casino. he was sick with the flu and was 0nly supposed to play for an hour. he played for an hour and a half. his last piece was an all string version of John Phillips Sousa's march. had the audience on our feet with a standing ovation

I tell you he got his deal on rca by playing something that Chet had never heard. My dad played on several sessions with him and as well as being the best of friends and fishing buddys. Check out Ringo Starr album called beaucoups of blues and listen to Jerry count it off on a tune called 15 dollar draw. On the back of album is a pic of dad and all the other artists who played on the album except for jerry the girl who sang in the group called the kendall's. Another good one is let's sing our song recorded live at the Opry house. It was called Don Chrisner presents In Concert it was basically a rca label show and Jerry was the last act to come on. If you listen to it you will hear Jerry reference my dad by saying get it Shorty. Check it out. Oh Jerry also had his own national TV show and if you watch the one where he interviews Tammy Wynette she will tell a story and mention my dad as well. Hope you enjoy. Another great guitar player was Grady Martin

Jerry is such a character. I've seen him five times and was thoroughly entertained each time. He can go on playing the acoustic guitar for an hour nonstop. Then he gets up and funs with everyone.🤙🌴😎

Fil, great choice = I had not seen that one before. Jerry always amazed me, whether for his playing, his playing style, writing, studio work, collaborations, or live performances. He was a superb player and certainly an outstanding fingerstyle guitar player. The other thing I've always loved, when I see videos of Jerry on stage (only saw him live one time) is what a heck of a good time he had while playing. It didn't matter if he was the front man, or playing sideman - he just had a big smile all over his face, and you can see that he was just loving every note. Many thanks for featuring this amazing musician.

Splendid job Fil, you really did your homework on this one! The movie Smokey and the Bandit came out the same year I graduated high school,1977. He was a legend in the world of guitar players, and from that very movie's soundtrack was released Eastbound & Down which made its way to number 2 on the country charts and I believe stayed there for a good while. Brings back some memories and also makes me feel old!

Fil, you do a great job with these analysis videos. They are well researched, and your critiques are honest and fair. The fact that you play makes these reviews more authentic, and the best part of all of this is, that you are having one hell of a good time. God bless you, from all your American fans.

Only 4 people have a CGP Jerry definitely deserves his... He is one of the most underrated guitar players in the business, he is a phenomenal writer and picker and deserves way more accolades then he currently gets. I love the stories of Chet Atkins saying he would play something and Jerry would say where did you get that; and Chet would say "Jerry you wrote it in my office"... Great video!

Will Martell , Chet got fed up with all these folk coming to his office with letters after their name, he jokingly awarded himself C G P, certified guitar player. later he awarded John Knowles ,Marcel Dadi, Tommy Emmanuel and Jerry Reed the title, after he passed away his daughter Merle(after Mr Travis) awarded her dads friend Paul Yandell the CGP title,

man, if I had to learn that.... it would take me... at LEAST a year solid. And I'd have to buy a thumb pick. hehehe Boy, he had some crazy open string runs there. I always just remember him on Hee Haw and being a kind of clown but he actually could play! Interesting info. I didn't know he recorded with Elvis.

I saw Reed play a jazz solo about thirty years ago and was blown away. An interviewer asked him what he thought about influencing so many guitar players. He said, "I'm just playing around...Chet Atkins is a real guitar player". Sure, buddy.

A lot of those "variety show" people had their musical talent overlooked due to their having fun and clowning around on TV. Roy Clark and Charo are excellent musicians.

I was immediately impressed by his fret work and the classical fingerings there-of. Thank-you for expanding on his many talents especially with Chet Atkins. The deception of the limited pop-country radio in 1970s on, might lead you to remember his novelty songs like "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)" Often the boisterous "good ol' boy" antics mask a superior musicianship. It strikes me as a humble approach, not unlike Roy Clark's joking. I also like your Sept video with Jerry and Chet Atkins.
