Everyone ignores these types of pens, but in this day and age a lot of us really do like the less expensive pens that are looking amazing these days - well on par with some of the pens that are hundreds of dollars. Great review. I love the 601A and it's my EDC. I have three of them and I've found that all three have started to leak around the nib. I simply unscrew the nib, put a little silicon grease on the threads and no more leaks. They're sturdy workhorses.

Very nice, thabks! I didn't know the 601A came in so many different variations. I really like mine. I wish they were available in a medium nib... the fine is often just a bit narrow for my taste.

Thanks Aaron. I have a similar nib on a vintage pen branded Warner - High Class Pen. I haven't been able to find and information on it. Your 601A looks interesting as a modern equivalent. Thanks again for your videos. They're always welcome even if life keeps you busy.

Hi Aaron, the Chinese characters do stand for Wing Sung. In fact pronounced in Chinese it is "yourng shern" and it means "immortal life", just for your info :-). I do own the 601 and standard 601A and are both very good work horses. I have also bought a 601A bent/fude nib and swapped it, changing the pen completely as I enjoy experimenting with my pens. I do agree with Jen .Taylor that those who ignore these type of pens are changing themselves short! Look forward to your upcoming videos.

Actually, both of 永 and 生 have the "ng" at the back, just like how Wing Sung (cantonese pronunciation of 永生) have "ng" too :)

I've cracked 2 clear 601 pens and had to toss them out because they leaked after cracking. That being said, I still want to buy another one because they wrote so well on the cheap paper I have to use at work.

I have luckily only had the one crack. It somehow has not leaked and it still writes.

The Pilot E95s has a similar section and I get ink on my thumb every time I use it.

That may be the one draw back of this design for me. I will sometimes get ink on my fingers if I dont pay attention

Good review Aaron. This is a really attractive pen, the cap really makes it look vintage and special. When it comes to the measurements, I always fast forward through the measurements. They don’t really matter to me.

Love the review! Silly question: would the pump/piston part from a 601(a) work in the 618?

I dont know if it would work. I have never tried it out. There are I am sure some parts that would probably fit, but the filling lever I would imagine would not fit properly.

Gold plated. Sorry for the confusion. Remeber it is a wingsung less than $25.
