Punta gorda solana area on the charlotte harbor.elavation is 21 feet.my house is very large two story.and is up 4 foot if ground.last strom did not get water inside house.this on maybe.but the water last strom only went to my first step.i have 4 steps Thank you .stay safe.God bless

Lol. Seriously the low pressure area under the hurricane lifts the water underneath it up. And then on top of that the wind pushes a large amount of water ahead of the hurricane on the dirty side. This can result in water up to 30 ft deep. I have a friend who worked in Mobile and Louisiana after the big hurricane there a few years ago and he described a line of debris about 27 ft up in the trees. Why is this different from what he's describing? Because he is describing the depth of the water without the waves on top of that water.

Hello, I need your help with my cognitive conflict. I know Helene was a ridiculously wide hurricane . I know our hurricanes get their payload from the warm gulf waters. I know that when traveling over land,hurricanes tend to decrease in speed and intensity as they’re empty onto the land. Taking into considering its size and speed, how could it have possibly retained THAT MUCH water to dump down on Western North Carolina? Is a hurricane’s dew point affected by its centripetal force.

And it has some way to go. Don't forget the Everglades aren't exactly dry land, so may not slow a strong tropical system much. We've also seen a wind tsunami several times, for example in Helene, when water levels to the left of the core actually lowered.

​@@webers28 Firstly, you're talking about the centre. Now add the rain-bands, which is where the thing picks up it's power from. Secondly, the NOAA have a trouble-fixation, "It's going to hit Tampa head-on" and having nailed that colour to the mast, are clinging to it with all their might. It's too early to say for sure, but the first hint was when they added the hurricane warning to Lake Okeechobee yesterday. Now the flood zones are drifting southward. It may still hit Tampa, but a side-swipe can be worse than the eye.
