Well done as usual, Jason, but really makes me appreciate the simplicity of using ARDOP, VARA, etc. on HF with a basic Windows PC and my IC7300.

A simple script can be written to automate the process. It's even possible with a script to have the pi automate the entire connection without ever having to touch a thing. When on commercial power, the laptop might come out the winner. When on battery power though, the pi's lower power consumption has the advantage. I really struggled managing all of this on the pi until I finally retired all of my Windows system and just made up my mind that I would learn the pi. It's like the way my elmer learned CW.....he put the mic in a drawer and left it there. Only thing connected to his rig was a key. Thanks for watching. 73, de KM4ACK

@@KM4ACK I totally understand and can well appreciate the logic of that. But for me, after 40+ years in the computer biz, I am lost without them. And having recently retired, I have several at my disposal, so that has a definite influence as well. Carry on!😊

That's the great thing about this hobby. So many ways to get things done. It's similar to radios/amps. Some guys like QRP while others need 1500W. Nothing wrong with either approach. I was a Windows guy from 3.1 up to Win10 and I have been through a LOT of ups and downs with MS over the years. It was 10 with it's auto updates that finally drove me away. Win10 auto updates messed up a couple of things in my office that cost me hours of lost productivity. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time it happened, I ordered my first Mac and swapped all ham stuff to Linux. If microsoft had just given power users the capability to shutoff auto update, I might still be a windows guy. 73, de KM4ACK

I just tried Ardop for the first time this AM and my first thought was how slow it was?
@KM4ACK5 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is only 300 baud connection. Using Winlink over 2M results in a 1200 baud connection. 73, de KM4ACK

@@KM4ACK Ah, got it, I must have been thinking it was Vara.

ARDOP & VARA are similar in speed on HF but both vary based on band conditions. VARA over FM would be way faster than either over HF. 73, de KM4ACK
