Buyers BEWARE!! The owner of this 2003 Itasca/Winnebago Sundancer recently purchased this Class C. They did not have the motorhome inspected and were surprised to learn the roof could not be saved when they called a mobile RV tech to figure out the roof leaking in the rain.
After seeing my videos they contacted me to see if the motor home could be saved.
Join me as we see what we can do in part 1.
Don't forget to check out Andrew Steele's channel where I show the issues too.

Dude you are the rv repair king of kings! When u dissasemble these rvs you don't damage shit. You give very good before during and after shots that have given me the balls to tackle my97 40 ft holiday rambler imperial. Mine gas an aluminum roof with a rear and forward fiberglass caps. I also have extreme delamination on the passenger side starting about a third of the way back to the very back . I believe I'm going to have to cut it into two sections to handle the fiberglass side. Now about the aluminum roof. Could l salvage the sections and reapply them. What would you do. Input greatly appreciated. I'm in muchigan got a heated garage to do this over the winter. Thanks for being so thorough. You are a great rv technician and it's great to see someone cleverly come out on top consistantly.consistently. I'm going to video the hole proceess. And if I pull this off I may just start my own gig doing these types of jobs. The electrical is a very baffling process for me yet but I'm starting to understand that now too. This rv is going to hopefully be around for a long time to come if I can be successfull in all these repairs.

4 years ago while I was on vacation in Moab with my wife and son, my grandparents who are in their 80's called and asked for advice on this used TT they were looking at. They sent me a bunch of pictures and while it looked ok I saw what looked like some water damage so I told them to wait a week until I got back so I could inspect the roof. Well of course they bought it. When I got there to look at it the roof had been repaired with vinyl from a roadside ad and some kind of mastic and it was so rotten I could not even get on the roof. The entire roof had to be replaced; EPDM roof, luan decking, joists (ugh), insulation and the ceiling. I nice little 4 week project (after work and weekends). I guess some lessons have to be learned the hard way but at least they are still able to enjoy the trailer even today.

The roof on our 2019 Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel is always the biggest point of stress for me. I have a TPO roof and wash it every three months and check for cracks in the seals. We keep our rig in an RV Park all the time so it doesn’t see the stresses of going down the road all the time. We hope that being static and always cleaning and checking the roof will go far toward keeping it water tight.

I am starting to think the manufacturers are letting the adhesive dry too much before installing the membrane. If that's the case, the problem will be random, but baked in at the factory will no real way of knowing until it happens. Sounds like you are doing routine inspections so you should see it before it becomes an issue. Thanks!

That stinks. Some people. I bought my Class A off what I call a super dealer. One of the huge ones in Florida. I will say they were honest. I had a survey of my own done and it was 99% what they had told me. Then they met me half way with a set of very expense repairs. I wanted things done that my man found and said had less then a year left. The dealer would not touch those but for the money did the work. I know you can't give that roof away. I know your give that RV a second life. Good man.

@@AZExpert, I am sure you have seen/used/ own one. I think they are called oscillating tools. Those things are awesome for nice flush cuts and with no jagged edges and the different blades work everything from tile to wood and fiberglass and grout and my favorite is when just one plank of hardwood floor needs replaced it can be exactly cut out and a new piece glued in with no damage to anything around it. I think they can be found almost anywhere for under 100 bucks.

This is a perfect example of why you do your research before you go and buy a used RV.There were signs of leaking all over the place that should have been seen.

So why are the manufacturers still using an antiquated system? Why aren't that doing the one piece fiberglass roof with the rubber protestant? There has to be a better way to do a roof system that doesn't leak over time

In general you are best to buy used as depreciation is huge and really the first year is fixing the rv anyway....just get a third party inspection done first. Dealers in general want you to have a good experience too but even their inspection can miss something and private party will tell you anything you want to hear.

@@AZExpert there should be two big aluminum extrusions on each side that connect to the sidewalls. The foam core pieces are 4ft wide, between each sheet there should be a rib that connects from one side to the another. For any place that requires a screw into the roof, inside or out there are 22 ga steel pieces about 4 inches wide that are between the luan and foam. Somebody tried to repair that roof along time ago. I don't remember those outer extrusions that you removed.
@AZExpert
@AZExpert 3 жыл бұрын
@@martysaxton9922 I agree with everything you said and show the majority in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/goG1fXmraJWai5Y I've never seen a rib connecting sidewalls at each joint, usually they are spread out. The 22 gauge steel is mostly found at the rear cap, I have seen them under antennas and satellites. I am not sure what you are disagreeing with, someone definitely tried to fix the delamination with alunimnum radius which caused all the problems to the roof which is why I said Winnebago doesn't do this and why it needs a new roof. Thanks!

@@AZExpert so I watched the link you sent me. The things you call bow supports we called them roof ribs. Like you probably saw, they connect the outer roof extrusions together. Good job on cutting the FRP to width and inserting it into the gutter extrusions. I have seen that tear so many times. I wish I could remember how that front entertainment center went together. Great job on that repair!!!
@AZExpert
@AZExpert 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. It really does frighten me the whole time tucking the radius in as I have seen, and caused it to, tear. I try to explain the roof design as best as I can as it is incredibly unique. It really is an incredibly strong design and Winnebago is the only manufacturer to make a filon roof that doesn't twist the raidus into a braid. You should be very proud of the design. I try my best to explain the necessity of inspection especially at the gutter as most owners are completely unaware of how vital it is. Thanks again!
