I attempted to repeat the issue of the Volta power system batteries not charging for several days, but the system seemed to be working as designed. Then, it happened again! It appears that this battery charging issue is an intermittent problem.
Last night at about 7:20 p.m., I went out to the van to make sure that the furnace was working and the interior of our Travato was at least 56 degrees F. All seemed good. But when I looked up at the Volta battery status meter, I was surprised to see that it was slowly flashing blue. I was aware that flashing blue meant the battery pack was too cold to charge. So, I opened the Volta app on my iPhone, and it showed the pack temperature at 48.1 degrees F, and the remaining charge was about 88% and dropping. The shore power was plugged in and the Volta power system turned on. I was able to restore charging by cutting ALL power to the Travato (turn off Volta and unplug shore power) going completely dark. Then I plugged the 30amp shore power back in leaving the Volta button turned off. Very quickly, the Volta Power Systems display, and Volta app showed the battery was charging reaching 95% in less than an hour. As you may recall, this was my workaround solution in my previous video. A new video documenting this repeated issue coming soon.
Background:
My objective for this video is to document my unexpected discovery of the depletion of the lithium house batteries in my 2022 Winnebago Travato 59kl even while the Travato was connected to shore power, and to share my workaround for charging the batteries, until a permanent fix can be made to the faulty Volta Pure3 power system.
During my troubleshooting process, I go through a process of elimination:
1. Connected to shore power with Volta power system turned on
2. Connected to shore power with Volta power system turned off
3. Volta Pure3 power system turned on with shore power disconnected
I also step through the process for turning on the furnace to keep the coach warm enough so that the lithium batteries are above 43F, which is the lowest temperature for charging the lithium batteries. And I discuss my frustration over the Volta Pure3 power on/off push button, which provides no visual feedback as to when the system is on or off when connected to shore power at the same time. Finally, I document my discovery of yet another issue: the Pioneer radio command system and CarPlay app takes control of my iPhone’s camera. This issue will be the subject of a future video.
