The only reason she gets anywhere is because the other players do not take her seriously. Daltos, Potato and Duncan could all have taken her lands at any point, and they should have. She was massive obstruction for everyone's happiness due to the city states, and for the war effort towards both Lewis and Daltos. The pity towards Kirsty stands in massive contrast to the pettiness towards Lewis, and both are in the way of making these games interesting.

Fairly sure from here on there'll be a bit more opportunistic pressure towards her, but she could also go the way of Rythian that just doesn't handle being attacked well so they just leave things be. YogsCi.has never been a victory-at-all-costs type of game, it's a balanced one between casual hangout and competition. Now to go watch that camp yog game I missed out on, since there was apparently early aggression in that one, ought to be fun. 😂

@@Franzibald_ to be fair, it is very much a social game and Kristy plays that really well. She minimized her threat even though she was most likely to win the game if not for Daltos. Attacking her would be a very bad decision on anyone’s part as the backlash they would face. As you saw, the reason daltos won was convincing others to attack Lewis and Lewis’ poor social game could not sway the tide

3:00 - Helicopter Gunships are "Unable to capture cities" - if you hover over the red triangle promotions they have, it's one of them. They also don't gain defensive terrain bonuses. 4:44 - Paratroopers, and the XCOMs they upgrade into, cannot attack the turn they land unless they have the blitz promotion (4th promotion at the earliest). Not familiar with Lekmod, but in base Civ 5 you need the Alhambra wonder's free drill promotion, all three military xp buildings, and another 15 xp (either Brandenburg Gate or Autocracy Total War tenet) to build a paratrooper with blitz from construction start. Technically, we didn't see that paratrooper drop unless I'm missing something, but given (a) The unit arrives with full health after the tile it's on is nuked twice(2:30 vs 3:00), (b) it spent a movement point already, (c) it can't paradrop this turn (the icon is greyed out), (d) Lewis dropped a bunch of other paratroopers into the same area - I think it's safe to say that unit paradropped turn 205. 5:42 - Another thing that seems to be unknown to Lewis, Paratroopers can only paradrop 10 tiles away, Lewis was confused as to why he couldn't drop to some spaces. XCOMs have a much less noticeable 40 tile range.

@@jambobrenn8171 attacking daltos after he has been at peace with all other players and after daltos had resolved his happiness issues. Daltos with his army split attacking lewis and dealing with rebels was a glorious opportunity for rythian to backdoor the one other major science player in the game. he did make progress this game by actually making an army, now he needs to learn what armies are for. Obviously Duncan could've easily changed the game massively too if he hadn't tunnel visioned so hard on Lewis effectively wasting 2 nukes. A few major errors that have been made before and not learned from. If you refuse to learn how to play any new entries in the Civilization series maybe at least try to learn the one you are willing to play.

I really think they need to have a "cutthroat" game, maybe over Jingle Jam, where there's no consideration for "I don't want to knock out my friends" because these games almost always end up with "oh no it's too late and if I do manage to take out X, Y will win instead" It's frustrating to see people with no army but a great empire getting away with it because no one wants to be a dick, where someone else could easily just roll over them and absorb them entirely

Duncan complaining about not being able to hit daltos, while the last 40 turns were potato marching his army across the continent to take out lewis was way too good. He never wanted to attack Daltos, he absolutely could've if he wanted to. Wouldn't have it any other way though. Kirsty came *very* close to winning in her first game with the group, and honestly that's incredible. I think in future though people need to spy on others because Daltos manipulating everyone to attack Lewis basically won him the game, since he was able to build up even more than he already had, and knocked out a potential enemy in war. All while playing aloof about the Spaceship parts because no one decided to check his capital. Fair play to Lewis for playing through that lag too, absolute menace of lag that was. RT clearly won the game 100 turns ago tho

Good game to everyone! We made it! I hope Lewis saw my notes in a previous episode about the lag to his questions about them. Daltos - Nervous about being nuked decides to send what spaceship parts he has off to space now rather than trying a sneaky launch all at once. Honestly spaceship parts are much safer in orbit and if everyone knows what’s up there’s no reason hiding it. Daltos now gets to enjoy the luxury of his position having only one neighbor next to him in any position to do anything, the classically war mongering Rythian who is so well known for fighting aggressive wars to win games. Daltos pulls off the science victory, honestly a good 20 turns ahead of his nearest rival when compared to Rythian when we get a good look at his screen. A great job diverting everyone’s attention from him and taking advantage of his position but a turn 209 science victory isn’t anything to brag about. Next game I would like to see Daltos be a little smarter with the cities he settles rather than settling for the sake of settling and take terrain into account before just attacking somebody. He had a much easier target with Rythian instead of Potato early but chose to smash his forces through a mountain pass instead of an easy wide open plane and that set him back significantly this game. Potato - Let himself get distracted by taking out the AI, a move that, to be honest, gets him nothing but more unhappiness at this stage of the game. If he was going for a conquest victory and wanted to collect all the capitals I would save the easiest (the computer’s) for last as you can take it at ease whenever you needed to do so. He’s basically in an unwinnable position now, he can’t stop everyone from winning and there’s not enough time to take every capital before someone other than him wins Next game I think has the most potential to get better at this game and be a greater pusher of quality in these games.His big problem this game was he didn’t have a victory in mind until much too late and by then it was impractical to achieve it, a more focused game would have gotten them there much sooner. Rythian - Has a little confusion on what can and cannot deliver a nuke. Lekmod throws a curveball here because it removes the nuclear bomber from the game and just has nuclear missiles, those can be transported by nuclear subs and also missile cruisers as well as stationed in cities. Rythian also slows his hand as to how close his own ship is, sending his parts into space. When we see Rythian’s tech tree near the end, we realize it’s not even a close race, he is legitimately 20 turns behind Daltos, this would have been yet another 220+ turn game if Daltos hadn’t been here. Next Game Rythian really needs to work on prioritizing his research path, getting technologies that help him now rather than later. Including three key techs as soon as possible to unlock universities, workshops, and factories. Those are very important buildings to have in your cities and his games would progress much faster if he prioritized getting to them on the tech tree much sooner. Lewis - Nuked, invaded, ganged up on, cursed by lag, there’s really nothing he can do anymore but watch and yell at the incompetence of his attackers. The least they could do is kill him more competently. After basically centuries of war it took two nukes to finally topple his capital and now all he can do is watch as the man that rallied everyone against him gets the victory. Next game Lewis needs to figure out a way to divert people’s attention away from him, a tough task given his previous games. If he does try a tourism victory ever again it’s important to get those musicians out once you reach peak tourism production. Duncan - Leaves his mark on the game by nuking Lewis’s capital twice. Something I think we all saw coming a few episodes ago. The only nukes to fly as they take so long to build and it took him AGES to build these. A small victory for Babylon, once again to find out that helicopters can’t take cities as he flies one into Lewis’s capital, just like the last time he tried to use a helicopter to take a city and it didn’t work. Next game he really needs to do a better job of getting his cities up and out earlier, late settles and just complaining constantly about how awful his land was instead of playing to the strengths of it was not fun to watch or experience. Kirsty - Can only watch as the other players rush to stop yet another player from winning. Her cheeky diplo play which would have been epic did not get another chance to go off as the other players' science victories progressed faster than the world congress votes.It is honestly impressive considering how poor of a start she had that she was even close to a victory near the end. Next game I would love to see Kirsty pick Tradition instead of Liberty if she only ever intends to settle four cities. Liberty is meant for players settling 6 or more cities not only having four. Her early choices in the game really hurt her later and left her in a poor position throughout the game. William of crabs - Was no match for the far superior forces of Potato, a sad day for the crab people. Next game -More crabs.

There have been a lot of comments throughout this game that Potato would have had a better chance if he had taken out Kirsty earlier on. I was curious of your thoughts because from my perspective (as a much more casual Civ enjoyer): If Potato attacked Kirsty, and even if he defeated her, her land was essentially in the very center of the continent, and from then on Potato could easily be pincered by a giga alliance and lose all the ground he made. The way I see it Kirsty would have been the WORST person to go after first. Is that just a silly perspective? Also thank you for your analyses every video I look forward to reading them essentially as part of the content :)

@@NausicaaNee The reason Potato needed to wipe out Kirsty was she was his primary competition for dominating the city-states for a diplomatic victory. If she was defeated and completely removed from the game (an important thing to do not just taking some of her cities but completely removing her) he would have no more competition there and had a much easier path to diplomatic victory and likely immediately upon her death become almost every city-state's ally because he was probably second place in influence with most if not all of her former allies.

In terms of Daltos attacking Potato and not Rhythian, I would say that that was the correct move. Mainly as Potato was the better war player and the threat assessment was correct. What's more, Daltos had minutemen which can move freely in rough terrain, making what was a seemingly secure city a major vulnerability. I can easily see a well executed rush taking that city, in doing so allowing the capture of the one to the south as well. And while at that point Potato may have gotten his foreign aid in and armies mobilised to stop any further attack, Daltos would have won a few free techs and three new cities from the war. His issue was simply that he didn't have the cannons there right behind him as he attacked Mombassa. Had they been directly behind, or even in front of the citystate when taken, and then he moved directly on to attacking potato then he would have the city surrounded and cannoned upon before the defender could attack. Instead, he was assuming that he could engineer a more natural war between the two and have it so others wouldn't pay mind/ see it as a direct threat or anything. Ergo not get involved. Sadly for him it was already agreed that he was ahead, so the moment the war started people began bankrolling potato. I've heard the idea of a house rule where 'you must immediately add any spaceship parts you build' is put in. -Likewise, maybe limits to funding other players in war with cash donations. (Donating troops or sending them in direct would be fine). And yes, also sad we didn't have potato do a domination victory. -Had he swung all his tanks in after peacing with Lewis to take on Daltos, he could have taken him out. -Then turn on Rythian. -Duncan would likely save the nukes and get a few in, but his fall would be inevitable, while Kirsty and William of crabs were roadbumps.

Duncan nuking Lewis was always going to happen , Duncan is petty! Daltos wins cause he was able to manipulate everyone to belvie lewis was close to wining a culture victory even if he was 100 + turns away from it. Rythian could have launched a sneak attack on Daltos and hit him in the back but he dident, he tried raising the alarm on Daltos to no avail but still did nothing in the long run either. Tourism and Culture are effectively tied together within Civ. So if 2 people are going Tourism, their culture is increasing faster than their opposition's attack, because most of defence is buildings, whereas a lot of attack, (archeaology, slots, theming,) comes from wonders, or other things where players are competing for resources, like Archaeology sites. You're dividing the wonders between you. This matters much more than with a science victory. Where population and buildings are most important. As regards the lag. There was a large Solar storm in October and these do impact telecommunications on Earth to a certain extent. Its possible you were affected by that.

The lag was because of the William AI. Lewis' PC ended up having to do all the calculations for the William AI player and that caused significant amounts of lag combined with the war.

for the Yogs in the future: Nukes destroy space ship parts. You can stop a science victory (especially if someone is hoarding the pieces) by nuking the parts before they're moved into space, making them have to produce them again

"Why is there so much lag?": Should probably try updating Lekmod (see Okram2k's posts for more details) 3. "Should Daltos be kicked out of future games for being lame?": Nah, then we'd miss the giga-alliance against him next time! 4. "Potato, does he win, does he deserve a te-c-conquest victory for kicking people's asses so hard?": It would be nice to establish some kind of house rule ahead of time that would make a conquest victory more palatable for this lobby. Dan. "Dan. Do we miss him? God I miss him. What a lad.": Hard agree, it's fun having new players to mix things up, and its fun having a source of pure chaos to keep everyone on their toes! And hats off to the editor for making this a lot of fun! While I miss the early days of Civ 5 where it was less competitive and more about roleplay/hijinks (see Civ 5 season 4 where Sips sold off all his cities while his capital was actively being razed, therefore managing to eliminate himself from the game), this new era of people finally being pushed to learn to make competitive choices is exciting as well! That said, I do recommend you guys try a game of Millenia soon! SMP is out in a beta stage, and the next major patch is promising to finalize it. It would make for a nice change-or-pace, though Potato might be a little overpowered in that given he has played quite a lot of it already lol

Potato you should have artillery rushed someone early in the game with cavalry. Would have made domination Victory more viable. You have the units for it you just had to commit on upgrading and attacking. Killing Greece would have been good have been a good move

WP on his part this game was fantastic ‘cides the lag and Duncan salt but it’s on brand Playing Civ like a deception game and taking advantage of how little the lobby understands culture is not my type of game but I think the group will be much improved after that harsh learning lesson of don’t overestimate Tourism and don’t trust the guy in the lead. I’m super pumped for future games now that the yogs are learning

Daltos basically won a diplomatic victory, not by game rules but with his fellow players: made everyone go for Lewis as he said. The alliance against Lewis was even somewhat reasonable when it began, it shouldve pivoted earlier. Kirsty, Lewis and Potato to some extent couldve noticed Daltos was barely contributing to the war, Rythian prepared for an attack, I think anticipating the giga-alliance realising he'd be ahead at the end of the war. When Lewis started offering peace, if everyone had just pivoted to Daltos, no nukes and unit waste to take the capital and Rythian not making 10 subs against Lewis but prepping nukes and an army to attack Daltos, couldve been stopped... But ofc all of that is from the benefit of seeing it with both hindsight and our multi-perspective, Id say everyone played a good game, very fun to watch :)

While I was hoping for the surprise Kirsty win, I am glad daltos won. While I was annoyed at how effective he was at hiding his science lead, that was more targeted at those who did nothing to call him or check with diplomats/spies. And what he says at the end is likely true: if any of the others took the time to learn the tricks Daltos learned, this game could've been incredibly competitive. I do think that in the future, science victories should need to be telegraphed. If you build the part, you launch it. Does this mean you can hold production and build them fast and still win quickly? Yes. But just like delegates and culture or someone snatching capitals, there would be a warning to allow people to react. Science victories at the end when everyone just wants to be done with the game is far more boring that a tourism victory in my opinion.

Civ V, competitively, was a solved game, albeit less so with Lekmod. If you start telegraphing the launch of individual spaceship parts, against remotely competent players, what this results in is: Lets 5v1 gank the player that's built a singular part. As you point out, it'll simply shift the meta strategy into, have enough Cities to have each city manufacture a part, shift production such that Cities hold a part on 1 turn remaining (same as pre-building units to avoid inflating your war demographics to hide the fact you're going to kill your neighbor) and then when all parts are synchronously on 1 turn remaining, build all parts at once and be essentially impossible to stop, basically kicking the 'telegraph a science victory win' down the road. Most of the time, the reason these things come as a surprise to the Yogscast is because they don't use their spies to check this information. I'd also wager they're probably quite reluctant to check the demographics screen either (which would have revealed how little of a threat Lewis actually was in the grand-scheme of things given the much harder cultural victory). I don't dispute all of these things accounted for, I'd still have enjoyed the Kirsty win just for how surprised the others would have been when it would be entirely possible to deal with (a bit like Daltos). Don't get me wrong, I'm not watching Yogscast Civ V for quality decision making, i'm watching it for the banter with some Civ in the background. But from a 'competitive' level, you absolutely DO NOT need to telegraph a science victory, anyone remotely paying attention with some understanding of the games mechanics would be well aware of that ever present threat, and is the primary reason why it's the second most common competitive victory condition behind Domination (in fact it may even have recently shifted to first, discounting the Idea of conceding to a player due to snowball irrelevancy of the remaining Civs).

Almost all the yogs civ games end like this. Captain passive does nothing for the whole game and loses while being totally untouched. Lewis tries some shitty strategy and gets teamed, even if he is in no position to win. Duncan "does science" while being behind in science and doing almost nothing of impact. Daltos fails at a war and complains that he cant do anything. And then there are RT or Kirsty (or whoever the new player is for that session) having no idea on what they're doing. Then finally the game ends with one player going to space while the others cry that they are too far away or they want someone else to deal with the winning player. They really need to get a better grasp on the fundamentals. Daltos won thanks to his superior knowledge of the basics.

They tried this to some degree with FilthyRobot (of the NQ Steam Group) back in the day. Ultimately I don't think the Yogscast will deviate very much, partly because they're incredibly reluctant to initiate early wars (even when the situation calls for it [Shit lands, boxed in]), because it will permanently remove a player from participating in the game, and by proxy comms. That is of course unless they looked into an observer role for commentary, but this would require both a skilled Civ player, and charisatic commentator to invite players in as they're knocked out (Think Tom & Pyrion with Poker). Daltos, having taken the time to learn some of the nuances (though not to an exceptional degree), fared better as a result. But, Civ being a rather large game with lots of micro-level decision making (Where to settle & why, workable tiles, priorities, build orders, social policies, tech pathing etc etc.) can be a pretty boring watch if you aren't already massively invested in it, and if you are, you probably know much of it already. What would be interesting, is some sort of 'coaching' match. E.g. 6 "Pros" paired with 6 Yogs in 6v6 FFA. However, that doesn't mitigate my earlier problem where: "You might knock someone out early, gg"

Props to Daltos for that victory! There was the odd misplay here and there (the war with tater definitely didn't go as planned for example) but he had a clear strategy from start to finish and just stuck with his guns.I know a lot of people in the comments seem to not like it, but using verbal politics to keep the attention on everyone else but him is something he excelled at too.
