The main reason the e2 is not selling well is that the scope clause in the us prevents airlines from adding them to regional subsidiaries, in the rest of the world the a220 offers better passenger comfort and it’s wider and can be converted into a high density layout. The a220 has already proved itself and it would be cheaper to implement them instead of the E2 because multiple airlines already have similar planes and it would share more fleet commonality with other bombardier planes . So the a220 just fits more markets than the E2

this needs to be pinned. The US Scope clause that constrains regionals is the #1 factor.

I believe Coby was referring to US airlines adding the E2 to their mainline operations, not regional. So Delta buy and fly them alongside their 737s and A320s. Scope clauses should not be an issue, there.

The E2 seems to be good at replacing the older Ejets and proves itself to work well in fleets where the Ejets once were, I.e KLM. The 195-E2 is the biggest jet that’s been certified to get into LCY (unless the 220-300 has been too correct me here). I find it more likely that the E2s are made for airlines like BA Cityflyer or say Loganair, a bit of a future planning part for operators familiar with the embraer product

@@CoSmicGoesRacing Cathay is a big if - 787-10 or derated A350-900 can fit them just as well. PAL would be a good candidate both for price and cockpit commonality reasons.
@CoSmicGoesRacing
@CoSmicGoesRacing 2 ай бұрын
@@steinwaldmadchenthe reason why I say Cathay is a strong possibility because they operate one of the largest A330 fleets in the world. And outside of the 777 and 747 across its passenger and cargo operations, Cathay is majority Airbus at the moment. (All their narrowbodies at present are Airbus) (The only new Boeing orders they have pending at the moment is for the 777X, and I believe that was made several years ago) If they go with Singapore’s approach and order derated A350-900s to replace these A330s, that would be interesting. As for the 787, that’s a big question mark. We’ll see.
@CoSmicGoesRacing
@CoSmicGoesRacing 2 ай бұрын
@@steinwaldmadchenas for PAL, it’s a similar predicament with new order possibilities. Rumours are swirling that PAL is looking at both the 787 and A330neo for their next big order. To your point, PAL has already streamlined majority of its widebody operations around the A330 for the last 25 years or so. Definitely a no brainer for PAL to pivot towards the A330neo. However, if PAL’s willing to take the risk and introduce the 787 as a new type, it would allow them to explore new routes that the A330 wouldn’t have likely been able to do. (Possibly lower density ultra long haul operations to destinations known to have a strong Filipino diasporas in Europe and North America where the A350 and 777 would be considered too big for lower demand. Something like Rome, Milan, Las Vegas, and Dallas) But having said that, PAL needs to convert its three options for the A350-1000 for the -900 as I believe PAL needs to scale up its A350-900 operations again. Plus, it’s much better for PAL to operate both variants. The airline is already facing a capacity crunch for its YVR, YYZ and JFK routes with the type.
@steinwaldmadchen
@steinwaldmadchen 2 ай бұрын
@@CoSmicGoesRacing One of the major advantage of 787-10 is its higher capacity in passenger and cargo, both of which Cathay may make advantaged of. Also this type is gaining popularity as a regional plane in the continent. The problem is Trent 1000 might not be reliable enough, while GENx is not sth they'd usually work with. 359 would be a nice alternative for them - in fact, some longer A330 routes has already been taken over by 359. There are reasons that A330NEO is viable for them as well- just that it's not a given. Cathay isn't known for easily hooked up by low cost either, which is a stronghold for A330NEO.

It's not that taking the 777 and 737 Maxes out of testing would slow down the process-it's that by doing so the perception would be that Boeing thinks PR is more important than fixing the perception that they put marketing over safety. Airlines have seen both planes, and not having them at Farnborough wasn't a great loss
@kortneyjohnson963
@kortneyjohnson963 2 ай бұрын
Agreed. Additionally the planes would not be out of testing just the 4 days of the show, they probably have to leave Seattle at least 2 days before and won’t return for probably 2 days after the show and then need to be serviced before resumption of testing. Meaning the 4 days cost closer to 2 weeks.

Don`t forget Emirates still haven`t decided on which engine will power their B787`s & another thing to consider is RR`s 3-spool design has better performance at hot & high airports which could be to it`s advantage.

I’m sure airlines are fully aware of the on time performance of the E190’s. As a ramp agent, I can assure you that the E190 can be a nightmare to load due to its sensitivity to weight distribution and the amount of netting required. Especially when at least 6 of the 8 sections of the forward and aft holds need to be loaded. I very much prefer to load and unload the A220, as it is a much more forgiving aircraft to load.

I just cannot understand how Boeing can be a winner of the show when: 1) Airbus outperformed Boeing on total orders; 2) Airbus secured the biggest order of the show; 3) The a320 orders outperformed the number of orders for 737 jets by nearly 5x; 4) It is true the a350 lost to the 777x...thanks to a deal that had already been agreed prior to the show, and tentative / option orders; 5) same applies to the 787..if it wasn't for the Korean Air order...we would've seem the same numbers of 787 and a330neo ordered - a victory for airbus and what it should be a massive wake up call for Boeing...two planes that are almost the same, with the caveat that Boeing is massively discounting the 787... 6) Farnborough airshow has reinforced an important aspect - JALs (who used to be one of Boeing's most loyal costumer) move toward the a350... With this wrap up from Farnborough (by the way...the worst Farnborough in recent years) I cannot see why Boeing makes the winners list...

Embraer is the leader with a wide margin on the regional Market, the greatest problem with the E2, is the fact that they also kept improving the E1s, so the natural buyers for the E2 have in the very least 10+ years to milk their very efficient cawh cow in the form of the improved. E1s, that now even have the freighter conversion option. . Also, Embraer did receive lots os orders for the E2 a few months back and their main focus for Farborough wasn't the E2 but presenting the first prototype of the EVE electric urbam mobility vehycle, that should start test flights very soon, this is another market that Embraer has dominated the number of orders even before having a working prototype. Eve is the leader in the backlog of firm orders for this type of vehycle. The talk of the day is that Embraer might skip the narrow body market altogether and go to wide bodies, maybe because the choice of propulsion in the future is more predictable for the next 10 years. Because the next generation of engines, like the CFM Rise, is poised to be initially focused on the narrow body market, and would take some time to scale them for wide bodies. So if Embraer starts a new narrow body project now, with current engines, it will be certified about the time the next generation engines comes to market, and then Embraer will quite possibly suffer a lot from that. Other is a reason both Boeing and Airbus are waiting the end of this decade to attempt a new clean sheet design for their next narrow body designs.

Great video Coby! Also at 10:25 my biggest though on why the Embraer E2 isn’t selling well *still* has to do with not just the scope clause in the USA 🇺🇸 but also the fact that Boeing is once again trying to acquire Embraer’s commercial business and many potential customers have put things on hold to see how the acquisition goes. If this sounds like Deja vu it’s because it is essentially what happened pre-Covid the last time Boeing tried to purchase Embraer. Also I am confused if airlines want a third option why not buy the A220? Specifically the A220-300 which is the same size as the comparably sizes Airbus A319 which currently has no modern successors since cancelling the A319neo. Also, the A220 has already proven popular in the USA 🇺🇸 and throughout North America and I personally love the jet as do many other people and would love to see United fly it! Anyways that’s enough speculation, still what a great video! Cheers 🥂 my friend! -Caleb’s Aviation 😅

I also didn’t think too much of the new Qsuite, but that’s a testament to how eye-catching and revolutionary the original version is and still is. This new version is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Personally I quite like the marbled finish and I don’t think it looks tacky. Also, Turkish Airlines also launching an all-new business product likely took some sparkle away cause that’s a huge upgrade from what they currently have. Elsewhere, it’s great to see the 777X taking big steps forward, I think that makes up somewhat for Boeing not bringing test aircraft over. I like that they’re fully focused on their certification programs and righting their unstable ship. Worth a mention that the A330neo didn’t manage to secure any fresh orders from new customers, Virgin did buy a handful, but the Vietjet one was placed at the Singapore Airshow and only firmed up here. Would’ve like to see more there. One unnoticed winner for me was De Havilland Canada, announcing big plans for the Dash 8 400, in terms of refurbishment and road to restart of production. They also scored deals for the Twin Otter, awesome to see these little planes and their makers score some good business.

Of course, the 737-7 and -10 have not yet been certified and I'm seeing little interest in it. So if Boeing doesnt deliver on the 737-7, they might shop for more E2-195's. Also, they have a fleet of aging Dash 8s which if they're replaced, they'll likely replace it with E2 series of planes.

I think it’s only a matter of time the E-175 E2 gets orders when many of the first generation reach retirement age. Also planning on going to the Paris airshow next year, I would like to know if you do meet with subscribers at each major airshow.

You forgot to mention the biggest winner: GE Aerospace. If even British Airways - of all airlines - orders this instead of the competition, it's a sure sign that the Trent 1000 is pretty much a historic engine that is rightfully going to be relegated to the dustbin of history where it belongs. Seriously, when you look at the statistics (AeroInside, etc), despite all the improvement RR has tried, the Trent 1000 is still noticeably less reliable than the GEnx. Basically, GE is the one that leads, and RR is the one that plays catch-up.

cody, the customers have already seen the boring test planes.... they've3 been to Paris singapore dubai etc. airlines don't wanna see the planes they want delivery dates.... it's smarter to have the planes out testing and certifying after 5-6 years or more of delays. if I have a outstanding order and I saw the test planes at an airshow I would ask WTF? it's probably smarter being didn't show up with test planes!!

In the US at least, Embraer is kind of screwed due to airline scope clause restrictions, which is really too bad. I think the E2 and E-Jet series are very competent regional medium-haulers with an attractive operating cost. I hear good things about the bike-handle style control columns too, once you get used to it.

There is only 1 single reason I believe the E2 is struggling for orders at the moment and that is the PW engines, and those are I believe is also one of the main saviour of Boeing at the moment, the amount of grounded E2 and (A320(1)NEO) is fairly astounding at the moment and for many airlines they are not very optimistic for receiving new or fixed engines within 6 months of the issues being detected at the moment. A real shame for Embraer, but hopefully like the Rolls Royce issues on the 787 once they can fix this, the program can pick up some pace, cause from Embraer's side its a darn good aircraft and in demand in the market!

I find it a good thing that Boeing did not put their 777X and 737-10 at the air show, and to focus more on quality control, let’s hope that these planes can show up at other air shows

At an airshow decades ago at Travis AFB, I was able to board an IL-62 which brought in some Russian VIP's. Tours were given though few took up the offer, I did and "technically" it was my only time on Russian soil. The flight deck was interesting with its teal steam gauge panel. I have nothing against steam gauges. When I got my student license at age 45, I learned to fly in a two place, steam gauge Fantasy Air Allegro 2000 Light Sport aircraft out of Falcon Field in Mesa AZ. I liked it, having flown in a couple of glass cockpit LSA's since, I always find scanning steam gauges easier other than having a color gps Garmin. Light Sport is VFR only and one can only fly from civil twilight to civil twilight, maintaining distance from clouds, and at 115 knots or below and no more than 1320# gross though the FAA is considering an increase in that so the used 152 and Tomohawk markets open up. My last Boeing flight was returning on a non-stop from Heathrow to Phoenix in '17 on a 747-400 British Airways flight. I have heard of the airshow you reported on often. It makes me remember the Concorde, which I saw once land just outside my JFK Hilton window in '99, and also saw during San Francisco's fleet week--who needs a sonic boom, it was incredibly loud. I heard the Space Shuttle's twin sonic booms once as it overflew Napa on its way to a landing at Vandenberg. I wonder if any practical air taxis flew at the airshow you attended. Many have had static displays but few if any have had real flight videos taken--most are faked.

US carriers cannot order the E series jet due to the pilot union. Too big for regional airlines to operate, too small for legacies to fly. Union needs to allow regional airlines to operate bigger jets.

It's not really a surprise given they have VLAs like A380 and 747-8. Just that it goes against fleet simplification, as they would once again having all widebodies in this generation sans A330NEO, with an equally diversed narrowbody fleet.

I think that Embraer is having issues because of the A-220, especially since Airbus is seriously considering the A220-300 and I also heard rumors of a 500 series. As far as Boeing not making an appearance with their 777X and 737 Max, well, I think they are still recovering from the fallout of all the controversy. I wouldn't expect them to show their faces (or products should I say) until they have been certified and ready for delivery.

I feeel like the E2 is not selling is that even though it’s meant to compete with the 737 and A320 family, US carriers optimize Embraer for regional travel, while this might seem good, like Coby “explaned” before, the E175 E2 is too heavy for regional travel, and too small to compete with Boeing and Airbus

I'm wondering how the maintenance story affects the Embraer E2's. Tui fly Belgium has 3 E195-E2's, but has been forced to stop flying them due to maintenance issues and spare parts shortages (mainly the engines I guess). On a side note, I hated the E190's (e1) when I worked as a baggage handler. I get that they're great aircraft for pilots and pax, but the cargo bays were uncomfortably small and cramped.

Great going, Coby. There are so many boring plane videos out-there. Yours are better ! 1) Just get qantas to buy some A330 neos, to replace existing, A330's. Yes they have some 787's & A350's on order. Nothing is more comfortable than the 2 seats isle & window on the sides; so much better than configuration with 3 seats between window-isle planes for economy travel. 2) When will the qantas A380 reach end-of-life max cycle limits ? maybe some 777x to replace? Recently saw the 747-200 at Longreach museum that operated till max. end-of-cycle life limit. Visit there highly recommended

It is just unbelievably tiring to watch Boeing and Airbus absolutely dominate the commercial aviation in the West. Sure, Embraer has a small portion of the market, but they can't properly compete against the ongoing duopoly. And considering how the American government is in bed with Boeing and the EU is in bed with Airbus, there's little to no chance of us seeing actual competition in commercial aviation. Especially since the EU and USA will never certify Russian or Chinese aircraft to be allowed to operate in Europe and North America.
