i'm so torn in this match as far as who to root for. Larry is by far my favorite player in Smash 4, especially as a Fox main, but I have so much respect for M2K as a legendary long time competitor.

Why don't a lot of Smash 4 players employ an extremely defensive playstyle? Altough it's the playstyle I loathe the most in this game, it is extremely effective... from personal experience (on the receiving end). I consider myself a good player, but I can never seem to defeat defensive players. Since I'm running on, I might as well say that a defensive Lucas player is the death of me.

Depends on the character you're using. The reason why certain characters are top tier is because of their godly frame data which allows them to play much more aggressively without as much worry for getting punished. Also, you simply can't play defensive against Cloud. His Limit Break charge forces you to approach him or else you'll allow him an easy, safe kill move to use on you. For the most part though, you need to employ a mix of both defense AND offense in Smash 4. Leaning towards one style makes you predictable.

A lot of players (especially in the Japanese community) play by staying out of the other player's range and waiting for them to slip up, then going in hard on them. While I agree it is annoying (and effective), when you get two players that utilize this strategy, it makes for a crazy-intense match.
