Thanks for the video. Nice looking stove! The temperature readings were interesting. I am looking to get the medium sized. BTW, NEVER scrape ashes into a cardboard box no matter how long the stove has been sitting. It is best to dump on the ground and flush with water or put them in a metal can so they can sit for an extended period.

Hi yes the stove is quite nice. You are right about the ashes. I had them sitting for about two weeks so I figured it was fine, but better to always treat them as if they could be hot so you train yourself to do it the right way every time. I just read that this is a very common mistake that causes a lot of house fires. Thanks for watching and commenting. Will do another video with this stove soon.

The glass will usually darken with soot at the beginning of every burn (and when new wood is added), but it burns off like a self-cleaning oven when using seasoned wood.

I didn't pull the spark arrestor, I turned the pipe over and used the handle of a mallet to tap on it and it fell right out.

Why the door does not have thermo seal? So, if use this stove inside a tent it is dangerous?
@goodlifehacker
@goodlifehacker Жыл бұрын
I think the smoke naturally wants to go up the pipe because the air vents are on the door so if you think about it you are opening holes for air to get sucked in to the oven so no point in sealing the door. If you tried to burn wet wood maybe that would be a problem where smoke might come out of the door. Check Winnerwell's site to see if they market it as a tent stove: winnerwell.us/pages/springbar%C2%AE-hot-tents

Thanks John! I will give that a shot next time. Now that you mention it I recall seeing that on a video at some point, but I forgot about it.

Nice video, and I applaud you for doing the laser temps -- a question I had in which nobody at Winnerwell knew the answer. Also, I think the reason the temp skyrocketed when pointed at the glass window is because the laser beam seeks the hottest object in the line of the red laser beam, therefore it was ignoring the glass and measuring the fire behind the glass. That's why the temp was much higher, And since heat rises, the sides of the stove shouldn't be more hot than the top surface where the fire is focused. Good luck with your stove. I just bought one, arriving next week; can't wait! My frustration is that most of the accessories I want are "Out of Stock" because of traffic jams at ports of entry in US.

Hi Mike thanks for letting me know that the video helped. I googled the touchless thermometer through glass and everything I read says it is taking the surface temp of the glass. See this video where he does a test kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYqcmp5rYt2jeck Let me know if you find something that says otherwise. I must have got lucky when I placed my order a few months ago they seemed to have everything in stock. Good luck with your stove!

Winnerwell should make top of the stove more thicker steel so it doesn't warp so easily. I have small and medium size woodlanders and both of them have warped next to where the pipe starts. Good luck trying to put a pan there without it wobbling..

Would you think this is a viable heater for on a boat? I don't know the differences between a normal wood stove and a tent wood stove
@goodlifehacker

If you have a boat that could support this with the smoke stack and be stable enough maybe. Not sure what the rules are either. Basically a normal wood stove meets code for being used in houses and would be heavier and have a permanent setup. This is a relatively lightweight stove meant for camping. That said, I'm about to do a video on how I hooked this up in my house for emergency backup heat :)

Temp reading was very helpful. Just received the medium woodlander and was wondering about the temps. Thank you

Hi. In this video I just used the firewood that you can buy in the supermarket. As long as you use dry firewood you should be fine. I have some videos on firewood you can check out. Thanks

Good video with a lot of great information. Didn't know you could get glass on both sidewalls. Your video was the first to show it. Thanks. Enjoy your stove.
