This all makes sense now. I had just moved from Cameroon to Cape Town 2 days after her passing and there were giant pictures of her on billboards and walls and i wasn't too sure what was going on as i had not heard much about her before. Thanks for rhis

The Stream really tried hard to load their panel with Pro-Winnie people. The first two panellists are so dogmatically pro-Winnie they might as well be mindless fundamentalists. At least the last two panellists, although still pro-Winnie, had more nuanced and well rounded opinions.

Arkuis: Mamna Winnie was in a war against Apartheid. Do you realize that? She was not a mischievous fighter because she hated individuals operating Apartheid. She hated Apartheid itself. She was a defensive fighter, not an offender. She and her people were so greatly offended, that she rose to the occasion of defending them, so carrying on the work that her husband then, could no longer do, due to him being imprisoned. This shows deepness of soul, depth of love and height of nobility on Winnie's part. Are you a good judge of character? This ability is one of the marks of excellence in any person. Can you see perfect love in perfect hatred for wrong? Well, that is what we see in mama Winnie. You critics and defamers of mama Winnie are looking exclusively at necklaces, boxes of matches, tires, and gasoline. How shallow. And by that you show the world that you identify with Apartheid. Apartheid is that evil tree that was planted in South African soil, which bore all of the evil fruits in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was separated from his beautiful wife, whom he loved and longed to be with and vice versa, because of the wicked system of Apartheid. As a result of that separation so many things went wrong, you could not accurately trace those resulting wrongs or fruits of that evil tree. Winnie had to be without her husband while fighting for 27 years, and even after his release from prison their marriage proved unable to stand, though she had worked so hard. Circumstancces after circumstances and circumstsnces on top of circumstsnces with a multitude of difficult stones in the road hemmed her in. We see her trying to circumvent those road blocks. That is where you see the troubles on her hands. They were all fruits of the wicked, beastly, and monstrous Apartheid system. This evil tree was what mama was devoted to not only chop down but also, and most importantly to uproot from soil. Do you really have an honest heart that can immediately admit to truth when it reaches your citadel? Or do you need to wait for a long while before you can agree with revealing truth? Necklaces for example, was an instrument of defense against the system of Apartheid. Apartheid proved so deceitful that it had the very ANC distancing itself from one of its most effective fighters for their freedom. It was so deceitful, corrupt, and corrupting that it had the same wicked system that had oppressed the blacks, eeking out informers from the very ones being oppressed, to undermind the works of Mama Winnie, so turning her own people against her in charges of crimes and other wrongs, as if those things were not both directly and indirectly related to the realities of a war. In this context then, mama Winnie was not supposed to have gone to the PRC or Peace and Reconciliation Commission, again, as if she was not engaged in a war against Apartheid. The whites who practiced Apartheid were the ones who were supposed to attend such a function, to confess their offensive acts of heinous crimes against the indigenous peoples of the land. Would you apologise for having to kill someone who came to your home at night to kill members of your family and/or you? No. You would not owe anyone apology because inasmuch as you hate to hurt people you had to do this anyways, to protect your family and yourself. The robber Apartheid came by night, symbolically, when the blacks were poor and hungry and therefore, could barely defend themselves. So, tell me Arkuis, how different is that scenario from the war battles against Apartheid, mama Winnie was fighting?

God wants you to forgive she was not perfect. But she cared for her country and humanity all over the world. Enslavement is inhumane.
