Everything Sokolov touches is gold. His books, as well as his ChessBase DVDs, are TOTAL GEMS.

Nice! Now I understand that Qh5 avoids the bishop manouver Bc8-d7-e8-g6. The book is on my watchlist.

Andras, you said that if you re enter competion, you will study this book in great depth. Can you tell us why?

Because it is my level, it has structures I play regularly, and because it is highly instructive!

Love your videos❤ I'm struggling to save my loosing games. I'm not good at defending. Is there any good book for generating resources or is it comes with an experience.

Improve your chess calculation by RB Ramesh It shows interesting resources and ideas. Something that you need to do and may not like it forcing yourself to think and use your creativity, you can pick a random losing position and think by yourself, then check with the engine and see what it finds, then try again, good luck

Awesome. Have you looked at winning chess middlegame vol. 1 (an essential guide to pawn structures) perhaps? Just curious if that one is also recommended for 2100+ or if it's also suitable for lower levels.

That one seems pretty similar in complexity. Long variations, difficult high class Games and a lot to learn.

I love the french defense. for me it is like a battle between a 1.e4 player against a 1.d4 player but black is down a tempo. a true test for the classic opening moves. but I don't dare going down the Winawer lines. so I play 3..Nf6. don't like theory but maybe I should try it... use the French defense as a punching bag against potential 1.d4 players. but I like it myself...

I tend to like large text/moves ratio so this book is not for me. :) Thanks for the video though, it makes me realise I need to step my game up in understanding opening ideas (working in Johan Helsten books now).

I have a few of Ivan Sokolov's book and I find him very difficult. He's good, but not recommended for anyone rated below 2000 or whatever.

I enjoy these reviews but they're always positive and nothing negative or constructive criticism is ever mentioned. I'm assuming you are sent these books to review. Do you feel an obligation to be very kind in your reviews so they keep giving you free books?

Don’t you think he is actively trying to find the best books for his students to improve? Do you feel an obligation to insult someone who wants to help you?

I only review books I like . “No constructive criticism” is completely false. in my last book review I highlighted a huge shortcoming of the book How to study chess on your own.

@@PatrickRecordon It's not an insult. Relax. I think it's a fair question. He's in a tricky spot. If you give a bad or average review you may not get another book sent to you.

The only use I can see for negative reviews is if they debunk books that are questionably popular. Otherwise, there are so many widely praised books from recent years that all you need is to pick what fits and ignore the rest. You'll be in good shape, with lots leftover for the future. As for Andras's opinions, he surely knows what he's talking about, and when he recommends a title you can't doubt for a second that his enthusiasm is genuine.
