Nice video! Will definitely try this recipe! Quick tip for the orea. Leave the negotiator tool in after you press the filter, and then run tap water through it upside down. Less faff, and no issue with the filter unseating or tearing.

I feel so validated to hear that a champion prefers drip coffee when it's on a lower temeprature. I also prefer it when I'm almost finishing the cup and it's just warm. I thought it was weird

I feel like a lot of coffee recipes and methods are a bit like a placebo, often overcomplicating things.

Awesome video! I have a question! How do you achieve a well-rounded yet full-bodied coffee taste? I am new to the coffee world, so to speak. While I do love my coffee, I don't have a lot of knowledge about it. Second question: If I were to make the best coffee at home, what equipment would I need? 😊😊 - And are there any coffee-making workshops I could attend, perhaps? I am not planning on becoming a barista or anything; I just find it interesting to learn how to make delicious coffee at home.
@NicholasHallowsАй бұрын
The answer depends on whether you want to explore espresso drinks or filter coffee. For the latter, a decent (but not too expensive) handgrinder (eg Timemore c3) and a clever dripper is a good place to start. Oh, and some good quality specialty beans.
@piathulusАй бұрын
If you really like full body, try a French press… you can use a good recipe (like James Hoffman) and play around with the grind size for an easy way to get what you’re looking for. They are very affordable and forgiving for new home baristas, although the potential may be capped.

Great video, thanks! What burr set is Martin using in the Mazzer ZM? 151F?
@victorwolf3200Ай бұрын
Small question: Martin is using 490 microns and on 2:38 (and in the description) you state that this is between 21 and 25 clicks on a C40. However, to my knowledge one click on a C40 is 30 microns, therefore it should be around 17 clicks. Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is crucial information for me. Thanks for the video!
@TheMeetubeeАй бұрын
You are measuring the burr gap in microns. But that doesn‘t necessarily lead to the same particle size of the ground coffee. They are probably referring to measured particle size.
@victorwolf3200Ай бұрын
@@TheMeetubee got it! That makes sense, thanks :)
@GabrielGGabGattringerАй бұрын
Particle size distribution was 490 micron - 33 clicks on C40 Mk4 (with RX35!) would give you 495 micron. Martin mentioned (at min 02:40): 21 to 25 clicks but that´s = 630 to 750 micron or (if using RX35): 315 to 450 micron Which is (imho) way too coarse when using Orea V4 with Fast bottom + Sibarist paper. Of course TBT depends on the coffee.
@giorgospapantoniou1395Ай бұрын
The recommendation is off. You re right. You should aim for much finer settings like 17 as you said (even finer).
@icedchiefАй бұрын
Can you scale it down to 200 gram of water as I like a smaller drink I usually do 12,5 grams of coffee… thank you
@piathulusАй бұрын
Scaling up or down recipes changes a key variable… bed depth. So you can try to keep his ratio but it may not come out the same. Scaling down from 17 to 15 is probably okay though. But if you’re using a different brewer/paper then I wouldn’t bother with this recipe anyways. It relies heavily on speed which you probably can’t reproduce at home either…
@icedchiefАй бұрын
@@piathulusI got the sibarist fast origami s zero bypass with origami s so smaller doses are even advised for the smaller dripper. In Japan smaller doses is fairly common. Here we just dump coffee for the caffeine not the taste. I asked to scale it down as you should keep the first pour equal for sweetness. 3 should change but that would have to practice with good coffee. I did 60-60-40-40 and got great results. Is it best recipe yet? No but can it get better yes but by practice. Mayby he can say keep 2 and then do that or that. Always better to hear from the pro…

@icedchiefАй бұрын

The colour just indicates which side you are drinking from. A different rim shape does affect a coffee tastes on your palette due to physiological and psychological factors. Do try the same coffee with different cups to see for yourself

It's interesting to see how a coffee is brewed for competition but I can't help feel that recipes like these massively overcomplicate home brewing. I used to be all about the intricacies of brewing but i found it actually took away from the fun and now i like to keep my method and tools as simple as possible.
