How can you beat the "moonballer", the "pusher" or as I like to call them, the "giver of no pace": Someone who never misses any tennis groundstrokes, plays higher usually slower balls and just digs in behind the baseline?
In this video, I'll show you how to exploit that this type of tennis player usually doesn't like to volley, move forward or serve big.

I love that term giver of no pace - good approach about not taking them lightly or being dismissive also.

ever since the last time I lost to a pusher, ive become more humble and focused on just playing my own game instead of falling into their trap. It is still hard but I accept that it is part of the process of improving my skills.

Your diligence in finding solutions for a player in a difficult situation seems to have found its solution through paid hints. Many people really need this because of their idea. Sincerely!

OMG I just lost to a pusher, he would lob every time he was in trouble. Soooo frustrating because I would do exactly like you say, try to do too much and make all the errors.

nice video. have you watched MEP videos? i think he is the best "pusher" at amateur level. i have played several pusher type people. i feel drop shot on a pusher can be hard, because the incoming ball has no pace and some with underspin. you have to practice on that. I am sure you can beat MEP, however teaching a amateur level student to beat MEP would be very hard.

1:27 My "giver of no pace" opponent is kind of the opposite: stands on top of the baseline and just blocks the deep balls back. Pulling him into the net is not a good idea, because he is absolutely able to put short balls away. I have to play deep and wait for a short ball that I can then put away myself. Footwork is key, as the balls come back in an extremely funky, erratic manner.

I have found that many players have difficulty with “givers of no pace” because they lack the skill set to implement the tactics that you outlined in your lesson. So many players do not practice or drill to build up their chip shot, drop shots, approach shots, volley or overhead. My advice is get a practice partner and ball basket at least once a week. Work on three ball drills, mini tennis hitting drop shots with a partner, hit 50 overheads then play points with one player on defense and the other attacking. Just some advice from an old high school tennis coach.

Tennis pusher here. Why are there so many videos about how to beat pushers and none on how to be a pusher? One important tip to be a pusher is to compliment spectacular smashes or aces so that your opponent tries them again and again and misses well over half the time. My lobs won't make the highlight reel but the proshop is more than happy to sell you a new racquet since you smashed yours in frustration after I got one more ball back with a high percentage play and caused you to make an error.

Whenever I call a "consistency" drill a lot of players roll their eyes. They wanna play "cool" tennis even if it's not the best choice for them. Beats me, I'd rather not play very fancy but win more. I'm with you on that.

Ik snap de titel met de video niet helemaal. Dominate the pusher is een andere tegenstander dan die je in de video schetst.

Don't get your hopes up. I have a continental forehand and backhand with grips tweaked for each, and I love to volley. My favorite strategy is moonball- dropshot. Only the best of rec players beat us pushers. There are two kinds of rec tennis players. They hit for power and glory or they hit for consistency. Rec players CAN'T have both. And oh, on really high balls to your forehand, consider hitting the overhead smash. Works for me.
