Glad to have seen this interview with Norm Nixon. It's not too often we get an opportunity to hear from him out of all of the Showtime era Lakers. Often overlooked and underappreciated. And probably would have been a Hall of Famer but for his injuries. And I have to agree....I think the 84 Finals possibly would have turned out differently if Nixon hadn't been traded and McAdoo was healthy. Hope we can see more Norm Nixon interviews in the future.

It's just annoying because they could have made it correct and it actually would have been more interesting. Like Jerry West for instance. If he was just shy and quiet and totally stoic, his depression would be just as interesting as the outbursts he has in this show. Jerry West is a fascinating person with a really troubled upbringing. There's plenty of "Hollywood" and "drama" in his life. They could have made a much better Dramady type show around his mental health and it would have been way better. I love basketball and will watch anything basketball related. It's just kind of absurd to me that they botched this show. It was such a great idea. The casting was pretty good and they actually hit on a lot of the characters correctly, they just totally botched Jerry West and he's kind of the central piece that makes the show work. Like I don't think people realize that showtime came out of spite for the depressing and crushing failure that was the better part of Jerry West's career. They kind of gloss over that as if it's not the underlying theme. Guys like Kareem and West need more airtime and you need to see the torment they were under. The pressure they were under. And how Magic and West came in with a positive attitude and really turned around an organization that was tormented. Whether that torment was Civil rights issues that irked Kareem and depressed him to his core or The failed career and physically abusive upbringing of Jerry West. Those are two interesting and very really characters. Instead they try too hard to make the show funny. Let Magic and Buss be the comic relief. Let West and Kareem bring the seriousness to the show. Just could have been so easy to do a spectacular dramedy around this franchise yet they chose to focus too much on making it a time piece for the 1980s and fill it with corny monologues and what not. Feels like an 80s buddy cop movie between Magic and Buss more than it does the actually Hollywood drama of a show like Vinyl.

I never knew Norm Nixon was from GA. When I was going to college in Pittsburgh in the 70s Norm Nixon who was an all-american guard at Duquesne was Pittsburgh's favorite son. He was legendary in Pittsburgh even after he finished his college career and went to the NBA. That was quite impressive given the fact that there were other star athletes playing pro and college sports in Pittsburgh at that time. In terms of legendary status he was right up there with Tony Dorsett, who was indeed a born and bred Pittsburgh area native. I wholeheartedly agree with Norm that the NBA's one-year-and-done policy has killed the game at the college level in particular, but also at the pro level. And in the old days it was very much a team game, but now NBA teams merely look like a collection of playground basketball players who play the game like they're trying to hog the spotlight solely for themselves. I rarely watch basketball anymore - or any sport for that matter - but I've enjoyed watching Winning Time so far. Brings back old memories...reminding me of how much I despised the Lakers and their glitzy stars for getting the better of my beloved Boston Celtics in those Magic-Bird rivalry years.

Norm was great but he was a point guard and so was Magic so he was traded for a great shooter

Kinda disagree with you Norm, small ball schemes (scoring pgs, volume 3s, spread floor,) proved that you could win a chip in today's game. Exposing the perimeter mismatch is the main the reason the back to the basket 5 is extinct.
