This was my first watercolor set and I really enjoyed it. If only it came with some dark color instead of white, like Payne's Grey or Neutral Tint, it would be perfect. I know you can get something dark by mixing Ultramarine and Burnt Umber, but I always struggled with making mix dark enough. Also, if you consider purchasing this set, there is a very similar one that costs a bit more, has all the same colors and additional mixing area. In a hind sight I wish I bought that one.

The Cotman set is a very nice student set and perfect for plein air painting. I used mine up a few years back but saved the pans and palette. For plein air work I use the Portable Painter which I love since it has the two attachable water cups. I filled the pans with the usual selection of basic colors in Daniel Smith but pretty much similar pigments as in the Cotman set only in intense artist paints but I want more choices when I am out of my sudio, so I used the Cotman palette and pans and filled them with more of my favorite pigments, primarily my earth pigments from DS, like lunar black, lunar earth, and rare green earth just to name a few. Then when I set up, I lap the mixing lid of the Cotman over one of the mixing panels of the Portable Painter and secure them together with a rubber band. They are almost the same size. The painter still stands up securely with the water cup legs and that gives me a nice 24 pigment selection for plein air use. new subbie here, I enjoy your work and creativity.

Really donnt know if this is a good review. I also had the same winsor and newton pocketbox but I was really frustrated. I also used other brands and realized that winsor and newton isnt that vibrant as these other watercolors. When you draw on the paper and the colors dry you realize that they look very blotchy and very pale. So with the same money you can buy high quality watercolors like van gogh or Schmincke (they arent cheap but you just need the primary colors). I see that you tried to take a lot of color on the brush but it didnt worked well. If you have really high quality you would need little water and had a lot of pigment on the brush

I don"t totally agree with the idea in traditional watercolor is that you don't need white because watercolor is a transparent medium and your paper is white. I personally think that white is awesome. It opens the door to a new realm of color-mixing possibilities. When you mix white with other colors it creates pastel version of that color. They can be wonderfully useful in desert depictions and cloud-scapes. Another reality about pastel colors is that they are generally opaque. I use white as a primer when I do stone painting. I use white to enchance the effect of lifting. I realized that the rules I was told that I don't need white or black or brown were holding me back from new growth and exploration. While browsing the racks of watercolors at the local art store, I would be amazed at the number of whites, and wonder why these companies even bothered making them if we didn't need them. Anyway, thank you for the vid ❤
wow...all the attention to opening a box, er, that is, UNboxing. Every time I read that I laugh. Just OPEN THE BOX and get on with the review of the PRODUCT. Who cares about the box? It's like pointless filler to make the video last longer? The best paint reviewers have already opened the box and unwrapped the paints. Sorry, but this is REALLY boring.
@girlstudyin5 жыл бұрын
Rashone I do think it’s important to show how you have to take time to unwrap it though! Since it’s something you might want to consider before buying it for checking the convenience:)
@avocadoasmr67454 жыл бұрын
It’s important because people want to see the quality of the packaging, how difficult it might be to unbox, and overall some people just wanna see this during the wait for their paints to arrive in the mail 😂😂
