Tip for people who just use the pigments straight out the pans/Tubes!: If you’re using a dark colour/Using a lot of pigment, be careful when washing the brushing, sometimes you’ll be using a dark blue, go to wet the brush (so it’s not dry and the paint can stick to it) and the dark blue will turn into a lighter blue. Just a small tip I learned.

The St. Petersburg set is cheap for artist grade, too. Other brands get hella expensive

Lol, I would recommend Shinhan PWC for artist grade and Superior WC (the one that looks like Sakura Koi) for Student Grade

I have a LOT of painting supplies, I’m addicted to building a small art studio in my home. As a beginner I try to find the nicest sets of watercolor that are also budget freiendly. The Shinhan Watercolors are soooooooo nice. I was surprised by how creamy and vibrant they are for the price!

I really want to live in the place you're living because I love the birds chirping and the silence! Its sad that the birds in our area here are not present because of the cutting down of trees..you have such a lovely environment! Imagine creating art in that environment

I would say for Q2 that it depends. While some brands are good with tube paint rewetting, other brands to not re-wet well and therefore will not work when placed in a palette to dry.

I recommend Holbein paints if you can buy the 5ml individual tubes in your area. It only cost about 3-4 usd (I live somewhere in southeast asia, where holbein paints are kinda affordable). I customized my pallette and I ended up having 7 of the pastel colors.

Lol your little spray bottle inspired me to get a mini spray bottle of my own and i am not disappointed. I only have a waterbrush and a very small one at that so using the spray bottle is very easy to reavtivate my paints! :D

If your a beginner do you homework on the toxicity of all paints too, including watercolors. If you have children or animals keep your paints locked or stored away to where they cannot get to them . Just a few to mention: mercuric sulfide, zinc, cobalt arsenate, lead, cadmium and when they are dry can flake and powder.

that arteza set is gauche paint. i have it. arteza does have some watercolor although those black tubes are gauche. for cheap gauche, they’re really great, but they’re just not watercolor. love your videos!!! super helpful 😘

Hi! I just wanted to say that I love your vids. But, I disagree with something. Beginners should buy sets with less colors so they are able to learn color theory better. Mixing colors will be a problem in the future and, all in all, it is not good for long term if they buy sets with a lot of colors. If you think I am wrong, tell me why. Thanks!

Hey you've made a good point! I think there's nothing right or wrong about either choice~ It's just personal learning preference. I started with a large set and learned how to mix colors naturally as I paint and experiment more. But I can totally see the benefits of starting with a small set too. =)

@@SummerSunHomeArt I agree. I started with a small set and eventually upgraded to the White Nights pallette of 36. But then I git a 12 set from Schmincke, and , I can say that smaller sets are more comfortable, but bigger sets are more versatile. Thanks for the response!

Great video! I have using watercolour for many years now. And this video is a perfect example to share to newbies. My favorite brands still st Petersburg white nights... If they have the colour I'm looking for, I use them. If not I have many other to use. But the price makes them my winner. Some of their paints have low lightfastness. For those who need that, exchange those paints.

Actually, there is a superior watercolour set that looks very similar to the koi but the paints are the same as the ones found in the foldable palette! It is really cheap and the paints come in sturdy and removable half pans instead of the flimsy plastic found in the koi palette! I highly recommend those to any beginner!!! By the way, your videos are awesome!!!!!!😍😍

I currently paint with the Sakura Koi Travel palette in 30 colours that I've got for my birthday. The colours are nice, but I hate that it's chalky and it takes a lot of effort to mix them. Even after through mixing, I still get grainy washes :( wish I saw your video sooner! I ordered the white nights palette, hoping it'll turn out good!

I think it will work, as long as you understand color theory and plan out the ratio of paints :)

I have the Sakura Koi palette and I am coming to the exact same conclusions. However, under the plastic tray, there's a molded grid which looks like it will hold sixteen half pans, then an additional eight to ten full or half pans, as well as space for better sponge. With this in mind, I am now looking for better pans, because the palette itself is brilliant, especially with diy blocks cut to fit the lid.

My mom bought me the Sakura Koi 18 set. I like the vibrant colors but they seem chalky and very dry. They are hard to work with. Besides the lovely box I don't like them that much. Sadly here where I live we only have those super cheap chalk cakes that cost 5 and under. Wish have the W&N cotman, they seem way superior. I think Koi are only famous because of the pretty box, because the brand is famous and they are from Japan. Because quality is not that big. Unfortanely I won't have new watercolors that soon and the Koi are the best ones I have at the moment. They make my watercolor process so painful to learn that sometimes I just want to give up on painting with watercolors.

@@SummerSunHomeArt Sonnet is student grade paint from Russia. The artist grade version is White Nigh/Leningrad. I think it's a good choice for people who are new to watercolor. Just about 20$ for a set of 24 pans. Not as good as Shinhan set but way better than Maries and Superior.

I'd go with WN if it has more colors you would use often. You can always buy individual tubes later if you need additional colors. 💕

I disagree with her. Van Gogh are more high quality than Cotman. Some even say that they are the closest to artist grade. BUT, the White Nights 12 set is around the same price, so, I recommend White Nights over eveything student grade. I hope that I was helpful.
