Just bought this ink! Using it for the calligraphy on my wedding invitations. It’s beautiful but I think I have to spend a lot of time mixing/shaking it to ensure the pigment isn’t see through

Thank you for the review - very helpful :) I just bought it today, and it isn't working with my glass pen or dip pen. Did you have any luck using it with either of those? I did stir it first, and the ink was on the pen, but nothing transferred to the paper when I tried to write with it.

It takes quite a bit to get the ink stirred and I find if it sits very long then it will separate again pretty quickly. Each time I dip my brush in I’m constantly stirring it. I wonder if it’s just that your pen had more of the separated mixture and that’s why it didn’t transfer well to the paper. It is a bit finicky to work with but very beautiful once you get it applied. I hope this helps!

I had the same issue I stirred it for 3min and shake it but it won't work with glass pen nor dip pen. :(

I had similar problems trying to use dip pens/glass pen with this ink. Eventually resorted to a gold marker! I guess I'll have to try the calligraphy ink (though I don't do calligraphy.)

hi can you mix it in with sepia to get bronze?

That would be interesting! As long as both mediums had the same base compounds I would think they could be mixable.

Thank you for your interesting video. I've been using this gorgeous gold ink on ink watercolor wrapping paper. I absolutely love it! But I woke up this morning with the following words in my head from a dream I don't remember. "Sue, I found him (dead) upstairs with the bright orange paper you made." I assume that "him" refers to a cat or a child who may have been playing with, licking, or chewing the wrapping paper I've wrapped gifts with. It hadn't occurred to me that the inks, particularly the metallic inks, might be toxic. The info on the packaging is too small for me (old eyes!) to read, so I must ask if this ink is non-toxic. I don't think that you say whether it is or not in your video. Thank you! I'm about to send a gift wrapped in my handmade paper to friends with cats, and I'm paranoid about doing so now. (I've also used a bit of alcohol ink in this paper. Do you also know about the toxicity of those inks?)

Hi Sue - that is an interesting dream! Your comment also had me wondering about the toxicity of this ink. I did find a data sheet on their website, but it doesn't mention anything specific, particularly with regards of ingestion or inhalation. Here are the notes from the data sheet: Inhalation - No specific symptoms known. Spray/mists may cause respiratory tract irritation. Ingestion - No specific symptoms known. May cause discomfort if swallowed. @@LeanneLandArt, thanks for your quick reply! After waking up with those words in my head, I realized that I'm belatedly researching the toxicity of the art materials I've recently started using. Have had premonitions in dreams before, so I take it seriously! I haven't sent any gifts with orange paper yet, so I think it's OK, so far! Although there are babies and dogs in the households that received gifts with gold ink highlights! SO, I will send to this home with cats with a warning to keep the paper up and away from the cats, just in case! Thanks again! Gold ink forever!!!!

I think that's a good idea, to just send a mention of the inks with your gift to ensure the paper doesn't end up in the hands of little ones, or in the paws of furry friends. That way your artwork can still be enjoyed! 😊

Thank you! 😊 I would worry about using this ink in a fountain pen only because it constantly needs to be stirred, but I feel it would be great with a dip pen, or something with an open nib that you could easily clean.

I have the same one but I'm not that impress. For me, gold watercolors worked better, and didn't had the problem of having to mix all the time. Is a pitty because the color is gorgeous

That's true, the gold is pretty but it's a lot of effort. I also have the FineTec gold paints and they're a nice tradeoff for also being opaque and holding their luster when they're dry. And they're not nearly as messy to use. 😊

@@vilwarin5635 I haven't tried the Gansai Tambi watercolours but I will keep an eye out for them. The FineTec's take a bit of water to get them activated but then they work nicely and have a consistent distribution of gold glitter in the paint. And they have lots of colours to pick from. I haven’t found any that are as active and ‘alive’ looking as the Winsor & Newton version. Finetec makes gold palettes that maintain a better consistency (they don’t have to constantly be stirred), but the Winsor & Newton is by far the most realistic and pure looking to me!
