You are so right! I just got mine and did one ride on 25mm GP5000s. Super-stiff but also a harsh ride. It's like riding a time machine going back to 23mm and 120 psi. I ordered the 28mm GP5000s. According Sram's tire pressure calculator -- which is very good - I can lower my rear tire pressure 12 pounds on the 28s.

After watching this I had ordered them and some gp5000 28s STR and the luns with 28s actually feel more cushiony then my previous wheels with the same gp28s and same tyre pressure. Thanks for the heads up with the tyres bud🤙

@@mataibartlett6417 Good for you. Glad you are pleased. For me, going from 25s to 28s was a big comfort upgrade.

Peak Performance and others Engineers say the same thing. They are EXCEPTIONALLY STIFF, so much so PP recommended 28mm minimum and lower pressures to compensate for the stiffness. PP mentioned its a trade off as the aero gains combined with higher rolling resistance of lower pressures was a trade off. End result he uses them with the same caveat, Supple tyres, and a minimum of 28mm. Great vid! IMHO 21mm internal rim width of the Winspace and close to 28mm external is perfect for 28mm labelled tyres that will run truer to 30mm

Yes you make some good references there. So do we want our compliance in our spokes or do we want our compliance in our tires? Me personally, I feel a lower tire pressure will handle a wider variety of road imperfections than more flexible spokes. we will definitely need to find a way to measure compliance, not just rolling resistance. I thought about making some sort of arduino transducer rig to detect vibration. Or even just an iphone app that uses built in sensors. Not sure.. Perhaps it's time for me to get on that.

Thanks for the feedback Jonathan. I just ordered a pair of D45 and found your video very interesting. I ordered a pair of 25mm S TR and will see how it goes, if it's as painful as you mentioned I'll give a shot to the 28mm ahah

I would go for 32mm's now. I run 32's and theyre fast and more comfortable. I resisted it afor a long time. I thought 25s were big. I thought 28s were huge. I thought 30s were unreasonable. Now I run 32s and couldnt imagine going more narrow. Thank me later.

@@JNorth87 wow, for real. The bigger I would go for now is 28. I may use my 25 S TR on my Giant SLR 1 42 then and use directly a pair of 28mm on the Hyper

@@JNorth87 I received my wheels last week and rode them with 28mm GP5000 S TR in tubeless and my experience has been that they are more comfortable than my SLR 1 42 ahah. Could it be because I ran my SLR 1 with inner tubes in 25mm? I don't know. I decided to go ahead and use 28mm on my SLR 1 as well and will see how it compares.

Kind of like a Porsche versus a Toyota. Race the Porsche. But daily driving the Toyota might be the more comfortable ride.
