Are the Winspace HYPER 2023 wheels worth it?

I recently replaced the stock PR2 wheels on my Giant TCR with the D45s and was really blown away. These wheels really hold their speed for quite a while, saving you precious watts. I don't even struggle with crosswinds, unlike with my old, yet even shallower wheels. Highly recommended!

@@arthurfleck8934 Hey, sorry for the late reply. I changed the tires way before upgrading the wheels to Continental GP5000 28mm. Upon upgrading, I put on the 25mm S TRs, but will probably put back the 28mms once the rainy season starts.

Nice review, I hadn't heard of them before. I have a set of Yoeleos on my fixie which works just fine, I'm glad these budget-friendly brands are around. Awesome misty sunrise at 6:58 btw.

I didn’t want to say this in the video but most people will spend another $2-4k just for the name of a particular brand. But if you want performance per dollar then brands like Winspace offer something very comparable.

I have ridden my D45 Winspace wheels 3 times now, and the difference to my very old Aeolus d3 tubular is NOT subtle! I love the D45 wheels set!

I currently ride Winspace Hyper 50s & love the. I’ve had them for 18mths, done 12k & they haven’t missed a beat. Fast too 👍

I have the 2020 38mm hypers and they've been great and they're on sale at the moment. good all around wheelset but the bearings are abit gritty. I also run the ICAn Aero 35's on my lynskey gravel bike and those have been bomb proof. The bearings are actually smoother than the hypers and they've been through hell and back and have more miles on them. I highly recommend both but prefer the ICAN's due to price point.

Hi mate, I haven’t ridden the older models so cannot compare them unfortunately. They have updated the profile of the rim to deal with crosswinds better however.

Slc2.0 frame. Awesome frame! Highly recommend. Tubulars are a nightmare to chain tyres for the hypers, I have to carry pliers with me now in case I get a puncture. That’s the only downside of the hypers.

what do you think. Should I take an additional d45 to my d33? or d33 will be enough? different trips, mountains, across the plains, training.

Having a second set of wheels you also need to consider buying another cassette and rotor. So factor that into the cost too. D45 is nice for the faster rides but I don’t know how much value you’d get out of it compared to the D33. That’s up to you 👍🏻

I mean its great that they are opening their own store. but the biggest problem with that is the cost of the wheels will go up to cover rent, utility bills and staffing costs... The whole draw and _'allure'_ of a brand like Winspace was that they sold direct to consumer from their warehouse in china which cut out all the overhead costs and middlemen which in turn meant they could pass on those savings to customers who would be able to purchase carbon wheelsets, forks, frames and whatever Winspace sells for a price cheaper than most big brand competitors. Their whole USP goes out the window if the prices of their products are going to cost around the same as bigger brands.

I noticed you still reply to comments here so I was wondering if its worth switching from Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 TLR Disc wheels to HYPER D45. Please give me your honest thoughts.

Honest thoughts: Weight: almost equal with slight advantage to Aeolus (I think) Aerodynamics: Hyper D45 is better Price: Winspace Hub: probably Aeolus since I believe it’s a DT Swiss hub? Aesthetics: depends on your bike Decision? Up to you, if you do more climbing the Aeolus Pro is better. If you do more faster speed flat riding the Hyper 45 is better. My personal choice would be Hyper D45 since it suits my riding style better.

Main difference was in the profile of the wheels. So I used Bontrager xxx4 which is 48mm deep. The wheels I tested were much shallower and deeper than this. I noticed the difference mainly in weight which led to acceleration/handling. Tbh for my style of riding around ~50mm is the best.

I would have tested them but unfortunately I run 650B! (Also Cannondale lefty which poses its own issues) At least from what I’ve seen so far they only had the 700C in their shop. (They do have 650B online). I’ll keep you updated because I’d love to give my gravel bike an upgrade :)

I love my hypers which I got direct from winspace. The new Aus distributor pricing of 2.2k AUD makes the wheels a lot less attractive

Yea, in Chris Millers podcast recently they talked about how local distributes add a mark up. End of the day you will be getting access to better service etc but I think the preference of the consumer is always a cheaper price point haha

@Charles Man Better service can mean that you have a brick and motar shop to take the wheels to so the issue can be addressed immediately, opposed to sending them overseas or dealing with a third party shop. They can also do crash repairs on the wheels too, such as assist with replacing spokes. Anyway like I said above, preference is always cheaper price, then you can use your money as you choose. If they do charge an extra price I would hope there is some value add or justification.
