I have built all my bikes the last 10 years and I value the feeling of “knowing” my bikes in and out🙂 Of course this means that I also have had to invest in some proper tools during these years, but as I also do all services on my bikes this pays off as well. I swap out bottom brackets, change brake pads, bleed the brakes and so on! Tinkering is a big part of my cycling hobby 🙂

I own the SLC 2.0. That frame was good for the money. However, Chinese brands are starting to price themselves out with their latest models and pricings. Why will I buy a Winspace when a Canyon or Giant is about the same price? One thing also about these Chinese brands is that their resale value is horrible. Much better to buy some other brand and get more money back when you need to upgrade in a couple of years.

I agree but I just got a T1550 1st gen with free bars and upgraded shipping for $1602. I looked back when I bought my T1500 disc with bars and I paid $1500, so $102 increase IMO isn't bad. Secondly, yeah the resale can be bad but I got $900 for my T1500 frame, granted I sold it in 2022 when the used bike market was still garnering top dollar

@jrasero23
@jrasero23 20 күн бұрын
@@FliskerX the “New” Aeroad is $6600 USD with Force before the $100 shipping so really it’s $6700. Granted that’s still a great deal and most people would forgo building a Winspace for $700 more however the key thing is even with Canyon getting drastically better on cockpit fit, some people still might want to change the cranks, chainrings, saddle, and want even narrower bars so all those adjustments can really add up. For me personally I am a 2XS for Canyon and while the new quil system is brilliant when dealing with integrated cockpits I would need a larger stem and I would prefer the aero drops which is like $430 more not including install. Meaning that $6700 SLX is really like $7100+

I said that I would feedback on my T1550 build (105 di2, Hunt50's) - Absolutely awesome. Carbon layup looked good, bearings snapped in perfectly, great feeling frame. She's heavy compared to my lighter SL4 but once up to speed she's more comfortable on UK roads and faster (I usually average 18.5-21mph on rides) I had a couple very minor defects with the paint finish I'm waiting to hear back about but I'll still be keeping the frame. The headset arrangement is simple and clean, not too hard to work on. The cable routing also pretty straightforward with a routing tool. The open thu-axles I prefer on this frame as there's less risk should you cross-thread or wear the threads out over time. This SLC really takes my interest and I would love to see a comprehensive review of the C2 'all-rounder' which is outstandingly priced as it is a road and gravel frame. If you could take it on road as well as off for the reviews I'd love to know your opinions. Comments section too!

Built up a T1550 w/ SL 0 Bars a month back and with SRAM Force D2 Groupset w/ left sided power meter and Red chain/cassette, Winspace Hyper 23 D45, BBInfinite Ceramic BB and Jockey Wheels, SWORKS Power Mirror Saddle, and with all the bits and pieces came to $6K USD and that's with shipping and taxes and even a LBS building up my bike, which is kind of like you are quoting more or less. Maybe the SLC 3.0 is more akin to an all arounder or a Specialized Tarmac, but either way to save $2K-$3K going Winspace if you are okay building a bike and not having a big name Western brand, IMO is a massive savings, granted Canyon, Giant, and whatever more value oriented brands really start to brush up against builds like yours and mine and make you question if building a bike with a Chinese frame is worth it. My one argument for that is at least with Winspace you have to pick ever part best suited for your wallet, geo, and performance level, while with complete bikes you just get what you get

Great breakdown, I just built my Winspace Agile a few weeks back and it comes out at £5098 which I think is pretty good value for a 7.1kg bike, with a 45/50mm carbon wheel and Ultegra group sett. I did buy the Zero SL bars, BBinfinte T47 + pulley wheels which was about £397, Hope RX4+ disks & brake calibers for another £350 and Dura Ace rear sprocket at half price £165, so I could have save myself £500--800 on the build

Thanks for the informative video. It is not much cheaper than value brands such as Canyon. Also frame price from the UK dealer is more expensive. Probably wheels are more expensive too. The bike might be good but for that money I will want a big brand built for the support and research going into the frame development.

@@thewattlife Yes it was a helpful video. I was wondering if I could buy a reputable Chinese frame bike for much cheaper price compared to the big brands. But it seems this is not the case currently. Sounds like a great price. I do love the top end Specialized bikes, my brother had a Venge and SL7 and they were beautiful. But If I was given £8k play money, I'd get a Winspace and build it up, probably in an Ultegra spec, and spend the rest on a nice indoor trainer like a Wattbike so I always had a compelling option on a miserable day 🌧. Great video 👍

Something being vastly overlooked in building any frame is fit. If you know your SOH, reach, stack and know what works best for you spacer wise and overall than building a bike is perfect because in theory you can get a bike that fits like a custom suit vs an off the rack suit. I can’t contest to the current gen geometry of Winspace since it has changed a lot but the last gen T1500/T1550 in a size 44cm Small with 85mm X 380mm bars and 30mm of spacers fits me spot on. Winspaces half sizing in terms of their bars is odd but for me the 85mm fits like a 90mm traditional two piece stem and bar combo due to how it’s measured. People will bring up just buy a Canyon or Giant but for the Canyon after switching the stem and drops the bike is really $7100 and a Giant I would need to change the crank length, stem length, and preferably the handlebar width so that again dramatically changes the price. Listen if an off the rack bike fits you that’s great, but a smaller rider like me building up a frame makes more sense the issue is that most modern carbon race frames bare min start at $2700-$2800 not $1600-$1900 like Winspace

Considering the cost of a SL8 Pro, that's really about a 500 pound difference. The pros though are that you have a fully customized bike while with the SL8 you will probably have to change some of the supplied components (eg handlebar, crank, pedals, seat).These changes may run you well over 1K. If a tarmac you are better off buying their frameset and then customizing. There will also be a cost to having the fork cut in order to fit the rider.. I have also noticed that its very difficult these days to find a tarmac sl8 in stock

Like the video, but in terms of price of the bike, Windspace is nuts. The NEW Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 Speed, is 5,999 pounds. With ZERO hassle/time investment. No bulding it up, no asking in shops where they just get annoyed because you're not buying the bike from them etc. Just getting TDF winning bike, ready to ride bike for 5999. I did understand chinese frames before when it was like half the cost of Canyon or Giant, but now, this is ridiculous, it is only for people who like building it up, I guess.

@thewattlife 20 күн бұрын
I think you are missing a few things here- firstly the Force version is £6,499. This also comes without pedals so another cost, albeit small. Plus sealant. Comparatively, this bike is 18% more expensive which is £1000. That’s no small chunk of change. Canyon is direct to consumer, and some bike shops don’t like that, much in the same way they might not want to work on a foreign brand. I see your point, but good quality and saving £1k… not to be sniffed at
@FliskerX
@FliskerX 19 күн бұрын
@@thewattlife The Force version is 500 more because of the 404 Zipps not not because of the Force itself (I bet). And who wants the hookless wheels anyway?! As for Ultegra vs Force, it's probably the same level. I have Ultegra and it's like race car shifting, I can't imagine how Force would be better. It's just that Canyon has weird setups. But there's always the SL version with 105 for 4.5 or Rival for 4. It's just I don't know. As others pointed out, this is a hassle, it's a "chinese" frame with painfull support and bad resale value. There is so many very significant negatives and only positive is "it's little cheaper for this one particular setup". I'm curious how this unfolds in future years but it seems to be heading to more and more expensive chinese frames which is going to hit a wall quick I would imagine. Like the 2k Tavelos.

As the quality comes up the difference in cost is going down. I think you are right, in many cases. Buy a bike from somewhere local because lots of things can happen and you might need help. Customer service counts for a lot. The Winspace SLC and a few other brands are in many ways more interested in being seen as a serious bike frame manufacturer more so than actually selling bikes. They send me frames and wheels which I make public, but not once have they actually asked me to share a link or tag something or push for sales. Just sharing my thoughts but it seems like they want a good reputation

Yes they are higher but not insanely much. In 2022 I bought a T1500 Disc with bars for $1500. I just bought a T1550 1st gen with free bars for $1602, so just a $102 increase. A new SLC 3.0 with discount is $1602, granted there is no current promo offering free bars, but if history repeats itself I bet you anything Winspace will offer some kind of free bar promo, but even if you included the bars with discount the frame and bars are $1863. Name me one big name brand or Western brand frameset that starts at that price let alone provides a free cockpit. Yeah you have the Specialized Allez Sprint which is $1750 with shipping but that is a heavier frame and if you include a cockpit or a stem and aero bars the price is closer to $2200.
