My daughter was adopted at 3 days old in 1981, she was also born in Idaho and her mother also stayed at the same home for unwed mothers as this lady did. Her Mom was 16, her father 18. She knew that a marriage with him, especially at their age would never work out, so she made the tough decision for adoption. Luckily, the agency through which we adopted kept in touch with us and also her birth mom, and when my daughter was 17, they met. This answered a lot of questions for my daughter, she found out that her birth mom married someone else later and she has 3 younger half siblings to her delight. She also has met her birth father although she hasn’t kept in touch with him. We enjoy a nice relationship with her birth family.

Very sad that Winston's life ended-possibly by homicide- at the age of 16 but to have law enforcement refer to him as 'frog boy' is both rude and insulting. Thanks to his daughter he isn't a John Doe anymore. RIP young wanderer.
@VioletJoyАй бұрын
The explanation was to give him a name that would get attention and not be forgotten. The detective that gave him the name said that he was hoping that if it didn't get solved during his career, the name would keep the attention of subsequent detectives. It wasn't chosen as an insult. It was chosen because they cared.

RE: Case Names-- I can tell you as a medicolegal death investigator (deputy coroner) that something beige like Sneddon Creek John Doe is long and indistinguishable and isn't going to stick in people's minds like a shorter more descriptive nickname. You don't have to like the practice, but there could be several Sneddon Creek John Does, however, there's only one Frog Boy. In all the official paperwork, he'd have gone by a case number, something like OR-CBSO4039-1971. Given his physical description, they could have nicknamed him Fabian or Hollywood, something that rolls off the tongue faster and is easier to remember than OR-CBSO4039-1971. Names like Frog Boy (unless the press get ahold of them or come up with the nickname on their own) generally aren't meant for pubic consumption either. It's a like doctors and nurses who refer to the Umbilical Hernia in room 319. An example of this in action is the teaching cases I remember the most from graduate school that were very distinctive (the guy who got eaten by a bear) or they'd been given names over the years. Here's a few I can recall right here, right now, off the top of my head: 1) Iman, F, Peoples of India, 24-36, slight enamel hypoplasia. Cause/Manner of death is unknown. She came into the teaching collection from Carolina Biological Supply or similar company. 2) Paco, M, Caucasian (Hispanic) 35-45, sharp force trauma to the right zygoma, blindingly white veneers on his teeth, probable victim of drug cartel violence. He was found in an empty boxcar by railroad security. 3) Chompers, M, Peoples of India, 20-28, is a traditional hanging skeleton. His bones didn't tell us anything about his cause of death, but, he's got a spring-wired mandible that if you're not careful when examining his mouth, he will bite. He's also from a Carolina Biological Supply or similar company. 4) I named Biohazard Bob. M, 20s, white man buried near Helena, Montana, pre-1900 and was waterlogged for some of the time he was underground. Bob and his grave goods are overrun with mold, which is a biohazard. Cause/Manner of death unknown. All of these individuals have case numbers and I'd have to get into my records to look those up, but 20 yrs later, I remember their nicknames and the details come to me almost instantaneously. I can't do that if I was going off the case roster. It would take time to go through the collection and I'd have to be in the lab to clap eyes on said cases and briefly reassess them before I'd remember details like those above. I have a proposition for the pearl clutchers outraged that those investigators didn't run things in line with your delicate sensibilities. Go to school, get the training, spend time in the trenches, then we can talk about the temporary monikers given to the nameless.

I don't know how you could be so at ease about a family member suddenly leaving home and losing contact i mean regardless of how close you are to them you would surely show concern about their wellbeing at least but Winston's family seemed to remain casual about it all maybe that's just the way they dealt with things but it seems a strange attitude to take imo

Winston's parents look so very familiar that I'm sending this account to my sister and another friend who were in the Boise area at this time. I will comment again if we learn more.

Winston was a cutie. I understand the name frog boy because of the way humans get extremely bloated after being dead. It's gross but a fact. But I don't think frog boy was an appropriate way to describe him. People can be so insensitive and don't think twice about how the families feel.

Why would a 16 year old boy in 1971, while traveling, dye his hair a different color? Guys of that era didn't dye their hair unless they were trying to hide. Something odd there.

Dark curiosities, I like your channel. You do a very good job with this. Yes, I agree with the other commenters here. It's very disrespectful to call this young missing boy frog boy. Call him young John Doe from Sneddon creek or something. Sounds nicer. Frog Boy makes him sound like an attraction at a vintage Coney Island Freak show. At 10:02 he was actually a very cute boy! Thanks for the upload.

It is amazing how many young men have been found in a body of water face up and a lot of them with no pants and no water in there lungs. It is very very suspicious to be found like this. I always think of the smiley face every time I hear about a case like this.

Ok can someone explain to me how in this universe the body of a human could be mistaken for a frog its headscratching to me about how this sort of confusion could have possibly occurred
@idwtbkabbamАй бұрын
Probably some form of wishful thinking. If you see something in a pond, it's more likely that your first instinct is frog, not man. Perhaps only parts of his face were sticking out.
@katieh8186Ай бұрын
Maybe he was just positioned in a frog-like way? I would be very surprised if he had actually been mistaken for a frog

Just stating my opinion - I strongly suspect Winston's family. The attitude they exhibited was not that of typically 'exhausted' parents of a troubled child. It's more indicative of a set of emotionally detached parents who viewed their most opinionated child as an inconvenience and singled him out as the family scapegoat.. No wonder they didn't report him missing, they knew exactly where he was all those years. His sister may also know more than she's letting on. However, I don't blame the siblings as in an abusive household, the black sheep is often also emotionally abandoned by their siblings as a matter of self-preservation (and not actual/personal malice). That's because no child in a household like that feels truly 'safe'. The kids learn all too well that their continued existence and emotional safety is conditional and dependent on how much effort they put into actively remaining in the good graces of mommy and daddy at all times. Anybody associating too closely with the scapegoat child, therefore, also begins to receive abuse by the parents almost as an implicit punishment for their perceived 'betrayal', which is just another manipulative chess move dysfunctional parents play to keep the scapegoat child isolated. All this so that they may continue directing the majority of their rage on one specific member while simultaneously holding the affections and loyalty of the other children. The other children, in fact, are just glad that the focus of their parents' abuse is not on them. After all, all children can do is try and keep their head above water by any means necessary to survive until they become old enough to leave the toxic household.

It's interesting to see so much outrage about the name given to Winston - Frog Boy. While it definitely doesn't sound like a nice name, it was chosen to get attention and not be forgotten. It's because they cared.
