They are shockingly fast, even compared to other speedy sight hounds! I had a retired racing greyhound and used to take her to lure coursing practices. People would sometimes crowd near the finish to catch their dogs at the end of a run... and when a greyhound suddenly was coming at them at 40mph+ vs their dog, they were often shocked. A greyhound especially has a topend that simply leaves other dogs behind. Of course the greyhounds don't have the endurance of the other breeds. They pull so hard, my greyhounds toes would be bleeding around her claws where she was ripping the grass so hard! She'd be exhausted for the next two days. Longer recovery needed if she crashed trying to turn at speed.

I have two Greyhounds, one of them is a retired racer. They are simply the best breed! There is a myth that they need tons of exercise but it’s not true. They sleep for up to 19hrs a day lol. I HIGHLY recommend getting a Greyhound. They are so sweet and gentle. I love my two girls!

In fact it’s really unhealthy for them to have excess body fat it can cause them to develop heath issues and the way they’re body is built they can’t support excess weight.
