My Grandad was 17 when this was recorded. He was living in Middleton at the time. His mum and dad owned a butcher shop in Blackley. My great-grandmother was a captain at Blackley Golf Club, too

This film is fascinating for me. I grew up in Greenson drive from my birth in 1959 and this film is superb of people having a great time sledging on Alkrington hill, the river and the Lever bridge with Greenson Drive in the middle distance near Manchester Old Road. What a great legacy these films are. I did not know the Eachus sisters, but Bill and Gay Eachus were next door neighbours in Greenson Drive through the 1960s and 1970s, along with the Murray and Paling families. Lovely to watch this. John Flynn (now in Lincoln).

@@fredpedley8737 Do you have any further films of that area of Middleton near Alkrington woods, Alkrington hill, Manchester Old Rd.? Any films of an event called Zonk, late 1960s, which I recall being on the hill? John

I have to wonder if any of the boys on Kenyon Lane or Tongue Field are my dad & uncle. They grew up on Kenyon Lane and would have been 13 & 8 then. Lovely film.

Hi, thanks for your comment - Kodachrome was available in the UK from 1937, whilst it was hard to get hold of stock during and just after the war, if you had the right sources it was possible. There was a very interesting documentary about VE Day on The BBC using amateur film footage in colour. It's not available on iplayer any more but I have found some footage on the BFI website for you player.bfi.org.uk/free/collection/ve-day
