yeah, he's given so much characterization that it's hard not to be sympathetic and root for him. it'd be easy to see an alternate version of this story with a more everyman male lead, but it would absolutely feel like they didn't deserve Marin. Gojo and Marin work so well together because they complement each other. it's like the writer deliberately considered how to write romantic leads from a character basis in such a way as to make them organically compatible.

As a manga reader, I'm just happy My Dress up Darling is getting so much attention. I genuinely thought it was gonna get overlooked cause of Demon Slayer and AOT airing at the same time. But when it comes to the rankings I've seen, it's going toe to toe with them and just the other week, it actually beat both of them and was #1(Episode 4). One of the things I like about My Dress Up Darling is that Gojo might look like a typical otaku at first, but it's popular girl Marin who constantly ditches her school friends to go home and watch anime alone, while Gojo merely has a traditional family job. And both of them work well together because they are both honest and actually put the effort in to care about what their friends talk about.

it greatly helps that the animation is absolutely beautiful in sono bisque doll. they somehow managed to make it feel like an oldschool anime with a new look at the same time. if the animation wasn't so on point this could have been a series people would have ignored.

At first you get hooked in by the booba, then you get hooked in by the chemistry of the two MC and at the end Gojo slowly walking out of his trauma is what makes it great imo. Gojo is a great character. He isnt a shut in because he's a pathetic loser. He's a shut in because he has deep childhood trauma. However he is still a kind, serious and hardworking guy and seeing him slowly walk out of the shadow of his past is great. Everything about his personality makes sense. His relationship with Marin makes sense. He feels like a real person. I think he is by far the guy that deserve his female MC the most.

The battle style of the anime felt nothing like before. They don’t have a fixed solution to the enemies and situations they encounter, like demon slayer for example which is basically fight until u cut off the demons head or jjk which has a fixed process of the battle being “mc team kicks villains ass” or “mc team gets asses kicked but gojo shows up” They use simple but interesting weapons and mechanics to find a way out and this, is the kind of shit I want to see, the kind of shit I am waiting for all my miserable life

My Dress-Up darling is one of the most enjoyable anime and manga that have come out in a while, being ecchi in nature without the overt uncomfortableness that it can sometimes cause. In addition, it delivers a wholesome message about accepting others for what they enjoy, and that men and women are allowed to love the same things, even if it isn’t typical of their sex to do so. As a _very_ big fan and player of girl's frontline (thanks copyright trolls for the rebrand in JP) you're spot on the money, I am ery glad that the anime is allowed to exist. And to clairfy, the story isn't just "good by gacha game standards" it's really good on its own merits. The whole Kancolle-esque "personified firearms" things isn't really the important part and the in-universe explanation is closer to "the boss of PoV character's company is essentially a boomer of his time and just has all the dolls be referred to by their weapon codenames." Point I'm trying to get at is that it's got a very good story not in spite of a premise like the one given in the video, but just like, flatly on its own. The main issue with that however is that the writers hadn't achieved that status by the time in the storyline episode 12 is likely to reach so uh... yeah that kinda blows for us, and hurts the chances of actually getting an animated season of the good parts. Hell, the manga adaptation that the anime is pretty strongly based off is only at the kinda good part, not the really good "shit gets real" part yet
