Great to see the etiquette of seafaring being put into action! I find it amazing that anyone with enough money can buy a boat and put out to sea with no qualification or understanding of the mariner’s code. I noticed in a few of your earlier videos boaters steaming past at speed with no consideration for other boaters. This ethos is drilled into students on RYA courses and no doubt in your RN days. Looked like a great day out on the boat though!
@TheFishLocker4 жыл бұрын
- That is it entirely. You do not need any qualifications at all to buy a boat and take it out for your own pleasure. Because of this you get all sorts out on the water. All bravado and no brains half the time. I have spent my entire working life on the ocean in one capacity or another so it comes as second nature. Take care mate and stay safe. 😊

@@TheFishLocker I first heard about Stugeron some years ago in a yachting magazine. More recently I was reading the story of a guy who had skippered those enormous motor yachts you see in the Med and Caribbean, which cost more to charter for a day than most people earn in a year and he was saying that Stugeron was the medicine of choice for those clients who suffered from mal de mere. Personally I've almost never suffered from seasickness. I can remember as a kid getting in a large open boat launched off the beach in Deal, Kent for a trip to the Goodwin Sands. Sadly we never made it to the Sands, as apart from the skipper, my mother and me, everyone else was hanging over the side feeding the fishes! I do have an achilles heel though, on the only two occasions I have had a drink before setting out, I was seasick the following day! The second time was on a ferry journey between Hobart, Tasmania to Sydney on the Australian mainland. I don't know if it was the motion of that particular boat or the very rough Bass Straight we crossed, but for about two and a half days I was as sick as a dog!

I'd love to see you driving the boat to your next spots, I love seeing boats motoring along. Your boat is very good for a smaller boat, can't wait to see what you get when you do upgrade. I have a 24ft cathedral hull boat im working on at the moment, just got to paint the deck and install all new steering and throttle controls, its got an old Mercury 50hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke outboard. Definitely want to get a small spare engine to have on a drop down transom. I won't get it done now until spring now as I have a brain tumour. But im excited to get it in the water. It could do with the main beam on the trailer replacing as its not galvanised like the rest of the trailer. But ill get that done when the boat is moored up in falmouth in spring. Keep up the great work, I love watching during this lockdown, I also love watching you and your family enjoying fishing to. You are a great dad. Hope to see you on the water next year. A hard days fishing! Im interested in how you cooked the Bass up in the end. my family prefers to steam it or wrap it in tinfoil and put it in the oven with a bit of butter, a squeeze of lemon and a dash of salt and pepper. They dont add too much seasoning because they want to taste the natural flavour of the fish when its cooked up and steaming or 'baking' it in tin foil retains the moisture which makes the fish so delicious!

Well done, John, can't catch loads of fish every trip. Wouldn't be such fun if you could. My tame charter skipper, after a good days fishing in August with us on board rescued a boat about the size of the one you towed. Had a worried little family onboard. He rigged up, with not much help from us, the same 2 point tow, and as we got closer in, a side by side tow with a spring line. As you say, calmness is the key. Well done.
@TheFishLocker4 жыл бұрын
- Thats it mate. Not every day is a red letter day. As for the towing and any other issues at sea it really is best to stay calm and assess. 😊

Hello/ Capt'n John saves the day. For two seconds when i saw the yellow boat i thought it was Graeme Pullen on High Sea Drifter then i saw no totally aweome fishing stickers and the boats name. Now that would have been a viral video !! Lol. Well done and all the Best. Stay healthy and stay safe.

Look, for all the bad luck on the fishing, it was still a good video John. It certainly was a very lovely Bass you did manage to land but it was unfortunate that you could not land the big 'tuna' because it managed to use your boat against you, smash the rig & get away. However, I did enjoy your rescue of your fellow fisherman in his time of need, learning how to make a safe rig for all concerned. Thanks for sharing, stay safe & well, Don from South Aust.
