Yeah, wisteria is very invasive and grows very, very long vines. It grew on my dad's property, and I spent a lot of time keeping it pruned back. It's beautiful, and smells absolutely heavenly!!!! As you cut off each vine you can coil it up into wreaths. I made many wreaths from it.

Awesome job, it's so satisfying to see the trees freed. I am constantly trimming my 30 year old wisteria in my garden, you have given me inspiration to remove it, as I am getting older,there will come a time I can't climb a ladder to keep it under control. I can't believe the local nurseries are still selling them in Tasmania, Australia.

In our neck of the woods, people love Wisteria. My neighbors have a beautiful white one that grows on our shared fence. For us, in the Pacific Northwest, it is the curse of English Ivy, as it just grows, and grows, and grows....choking out whole woodlands. It is the worst thing ever imported to the US and is considered an invasive species in Oregon. Birds eat the berries and then poo them out all over the place. I rip that stuff out of my yard any time I see it. kzbin.infoLxAQ-wcemJ4?feature=share
@LitlPoot9 ай бұрын
oh yes ... that English Ivy is a monster for sure ... awful to try and free the garden from it !!! Down here in the South Wisteria and Kudzu are just as bad ... the Chinese Wisteria will take over EVERYTHING, however, the Amethyst Falls Wisteria is much easier to keep in check and just a beautiful.
@blw9579 ай бұрын
@@LitlPoot It's funny how we're all dealing with the same thing, but with different species. Scotch Broom and Butterfly plants are also invasive and noxious in our part of the country.

Great job! Around my house in Central Illinois, it is trumpet vine, silver lace vine, mulberry saplings,and honeysuckle ( not the good smelling Southern honeysuckle vine but an invasive bush. I planted the trumpet vine when I moved in and lovingly tended it on a trellis. Now it sends runners out all over. Butterflies and hummingbirds love the flowers, but I wish I hadn't planted it next to my house. We are warming up into the 20s today but windchills are single digits. I remember living in Arkansas when I was a child and how we reacted to cold. Stay warm and healthy.

We have what has been described to be one of the world's oldest oak trees. It's called Kvilleeken, or Kville Oak. It is in the province of Småland Sweden. It is over 1000 years old. We also have the world's oldest living tree, (regenerated from its roots), it's Called Old Tjikko (spruce) and has been carbon dated to 9565 years old. Kind of cool i think. I bet that oak you got on your land is a couple of 100 years old. Now, let the wisteria fall short on record years living, good job Robert!

And the gallant Sir Robert of ye ol' Byrd Tower, with his mighty chain sword, slew the insidious dragon into a million fragments, severing it from its lifeline, leaving the obnoxious tentacles to hang, lifeless and desperate, to bleed into obscurity with nothing to remain except the hint of a memory as a bad dream, leaving only a trace of a scared existence on all the living, tortured creatures it enveloped. From dust to dust. Hurrah for the brave and gallant, Sir Robert of Byrdsville

Loved this video. You could have titled it: Revenge On The Evil Wisteria. 🙂 It kinda looks like the Wisteria has chocked some of the giant oak limbs. And, you are getting it cut while it is mostly dormant. It is in the mid-twenties in Omaha today. We're out in shorts and flip-flops after the past few days' negative 40s windchills and snow. As you said you were going someplace warm, I had a thought come to mind about the farmhouse. Have you considered whether is it feasible economically to put solar on the roof? I don't know how much running a generator costs compared with solar costs.
