Did you like Neil's singing? let us know with a thumbs up either way ;) . Also, please keep an eye on the weather, while generally speaking, these are pleasant riding areas, it can be cold or stormy.

One call out for Big Bend is a real water resupply headache (and it will definitely get very cold at night). It's a real desert out there but truly worth the trip it's gorgeous

Depending on weather this is the best time for South Eastern states. It's cooler but that is what you want trails are over grown and the wild life will carry you away in the summer in these parts! We do all our big outdoor stuff fall/winter here.

Not close to home for me (eastern USA). I bikepacked the New Zealand south island this past December. Stitched together a loop of Rails to Trails gravel routes starting and ending in Dunedin. Check out: Otago Central Rail Trail, Lake Dunstan Cycling Trail, Roxburgh Gorge Trail, & Clutha Gold Trail !! They all connect end-to-end and make an (almost) nice loop!!!!

I did the northern loop of the Monumental Loop in early December. Got in the 20s one night, but we prepared for it and did just fine. One bonus was that we had the trails all to ourselves!

Here's an easy one for San Diego County, right from the airport: Start in Ocean Beach, San Diego River Trail east, Friars Rd to Mission Gorge and Santee, El Cajon. Pick up Old Hwy 80 to Alpine and camp at Viejas Ma Tar Awa reservation campground. Then Viejas Grade Rd (gravel) east Laguna Mtns and Pine Valley to Old 80, follow to Inkopa, and I-8 drop into Anza Borrego Desert at Ocotillo and S-2, north on S-2 to Hwy 78 west to Julian, CA. Then south on 79 through Cuyamaca State Park returning to Old 80. Can add miles from S-1 in Laguna Mtns and descending Kitchen Creek Rd (gravel) back to Old 80. Return to Ocean Beach via Alpine again. Approximately 230 miles, 4 or 5 nights. Leave the beach early morning on a Sat or Sun to avoid traffic in the city. Logistics are easy. Highlights for camping: Ma Tar Awa at reservation; Jacumba Hot Springs area; Aqua Caliente Hot Springs county park on S-2 in desert (also open camping in desert); Cuyamaca State Park; Kitchen Creek Rd primitive camping. Motels in Julian if needed. Happy Trails! ☮

@@BIKEPACKINGcom Love your content Neil ! I camp at Bumblebee ranch frequently and have noticed a lot of packers miss the nectar singletrack down to Hidden treasure (they ride Bumblebee rd.) anyone considering the chiang mai option should keep in mind that the region has some of the worst air quality in the world between January to March thanks to farmers setting their rice field on fire. AQI measurements for PM2.5 particulate is typically between 180-250
