Simon and I spend a relaxing evening winter camping at the bushcraft shelter. We cook our supper on the open fire and enjoy a cold but fun night camping in the woods. Thank you for coming along.

Long time camper, many have rigid techniques for fire making, but the rule of thumb is if it burns all is good. Try prepping the fire wood better, with most of you tinder on the bottom, dried center of log kindling pieces, than the other wood. Hard wood is better than soft pine for coals, but obviously you use what you can get.

Hi. Wonderful to see the two friends, Simon and Mike, getting together. The shelter worked well for a good beginning of winter's night. Good hamburgers and a delicious piece of ham. This will make any meal very yummy. Good choice of the addition of the battery operated chain saw. Do not work hard, work smart and safe. Technology is at our fingertips to help make life easier. Use it. Keep the excelent trips to the out doors in the woods coming. From Nevada, love, friendship, and adventures, Pappi, The Old Crow.

I'm from Knoxville, Tennessee. Last year on one occasion we had a dusting of snow. So far this year we have had two snowy days. The first was about 2" and the second,(yesterday) we had 3-4". It's 1 p.m. and it has already almost melted. This is unusual for east Tennessee so we may just have a true winter this year. (It's been a while) Unfortunately, most of the residents here are unable to drive in the snow. Being from Ohio, I can usually do okay, except the snow here is very wet. (Very slick, but makes great snowmen) Anyway, there are usually wrecks everywhere and cars in ditches. Everyone feels the need to drive to the store for milk and bread that was not needed or gotten the day before. My 83 year old neighbor, who drives maybe twice a year, will warm her car up and proceed to the grocery store at about 10mph. She never has an accident, but I have personally witnessed 2 that she has caused. The snow is beautiful and I yearn for it, but I hate the after effects. It also is usually melted within a day or two. So today, watching your video, I can actually look outside and see the remainder of yesterdays snow while enjoying your winter wonderland. Awesome video today, but definitely missed Sandra. The food looked good. Two more of those burgers would have been better though. (Sorry, I can't help myself) take care.

When you get the ax stuck in the wood turn it over so the weight of the wood will come down on the ax and split it.

Perhaps the wind is the reason you were unable to sleep. Subconsciously worried about trees falling. I know I would have been. Granola bars are not a breakfast. But since you're leaving, I hope you stopped and got something more substantial. P.S. for your next overnighter, I'm requesting steaks. And perhaps a baked potato. Also, eggs, bacon or sausage (or both) and hash browns for breakfast. Also I would enjoy two nights and three days please. Sorry if I'm getting too pushy. :-)
@IamOutdoorsy5 жыл бұрын
Hi there Irene. The next video (just a day trip) is already filmed. That said, I think the one after that will be an overnighter. I'm guessing the planned meals might get you seal of approval 😉.

Just the right name for a 'real camping' channel! Electric chainsaw is 'spot-on' equipment. You KNOW how to do the fundamentals...so when speed and quantity is important in wood processing, why not move along in technology. I find that I do not sleep so well without my wife nearby. The mind seems to note when things are different...or not right.
