Not too long ago, Cynthia and I decided to part ways for a short while. During the time we were separated, she travelled in Uzbekistan and I went back to Kazakhstan to meet up with my brothers and travel with them around Central Asia.As soon as my brother arrived we got a bit obsessed with an idea- try to build a winter shelter on the face of a high mountain peak not far from Almaty. The peak we chose for this ascension is called three brothers and it stands at an altitude of roughly 3400 meters.We tried to camp 400 meters lower on the north face of the mountain.

You're a canadian Robinson Caruso!!! So cool hearing about your background. I love the rocky 4 beard !! Were you afraid of flying the drone in those coditions, I've never flown mine at below freezing !
@journalofnomads

Hahaha I was so happy I kept my beard, it was really keeping my face warm! The drone works fine in the cold but it shortens the battery life by quite a lot so you have to make sure to bring extra ones. :)

Man I'm cold just watching this! Fun video, I liked your b-roll shots while packing. How did your camera gear hold up in the first scenes when it was snowing? I'm always cautious about filming anything when the white stuff is falling down

Oh man my camera was alright but boy was I stressed! The camera got super wet after a while and I was a bit scared that some water would get into the in-built mic ( G7x mark ii you know the kind ;) ) Luckily everything was fine!

Niko, you're making our camping trip through North Queensland look like we've been staying in a 5 star resorts. The camp grounds we've stayed have had electricity, swimming pools, refrigerators and kitchens. Here you are attempting to build your own shelter using a machete in the snow. Amazing! It's too bad you couldn't get it built in time but it was a good decision to come back.
