The people of Kazakhstan are amazing, kind, intelligent, beautiful. The country is beautiful. My son is adopted from Pavlodar. We spent about 6 weeks there then 3 weeks in Almaty. We had a translator and guide. I loved my time there and anxious to go back with my son now that he's grown. All he has to do is say the word.

Unfortunately we can't feel that fresh and beautiful flavour in that area. I'm from Kazakhstan and sometimes I travel around my country on a car. And the flavour of the grass and flowers that is carried by light cool fresh wind is so adorable. You can't imagine it until you really feel it. And night sky. I traveld around the world in Europe, US and Asia but there's no place where I saw such amount of stars in the sky. I swear. Sky at night in Kazakhstan steppe was the best view in my life by today. I'm a modern urban person, but I so miss those days when I travel around the homeland on a car.

Lol, I have a lot in common with that Kazakh lady. Though not a permanent nomad per se. I am an Arab Bedouin after all, and do get back to the desert, as much as possible. Especially the empty quarter in winter. Plus, I’m 34, and my eldest son is 15. Ten years from now, I’ll be 44, and he’ll be 25, with kids of his own. So, I’ll probably be a grandpa in four years or five. Definitely before I turn 40, that’s for sure lol 😂 it’s still a constant shock to my 81 soon-to-be 82 year old Dutch Godmother, whose gone through two childless marriages of her own, during her long life. Whenever we’re in the Netherlands, people assume my two sons, are my younger siblings 😅, never my kids.
@maxh7637 Жыл бұрын
I once read a comparison of Bedouins and nomadic Kazakhs by a Russian traveler of 19th century and he indeed found a lot common between them. Kazakhs are not permanent nomads tbf and it's very rare thing to see nomadic folks like this family. I'd say 99.5 % of people are settled down.

I recently started reading "The Cossacks" by Leo Tolstoy, which takes place in the Caucasus; however, the descriptions of rural life, raising livestock, and driving them into their pens and corrals before the evening are exactly the same as what we see in this video. It was really great to see the descriptions come to life!

"Cossacks" and "Kazakhs" are two different meanings. Cossacks are people coming from the military formation of Russia. But Kazakh is nationality in Central Asia, and it is not Russia. It is an independent country, Kazakhstan, where Kazakhs live 🇰🇿.
@istorichunter880715 күн бұрын
Hi Stephen, I am Kazak and I really like history. In the comment below Svetlana’s message is a bit right but at the same time not. Kazak and so called Cossacks actually have same spelling Kazaks in both Kazak and Russian languages. However, Kazak speaks Turkic language as many other neighbors most of the also with nomadic background and the word Kazak has meaning only in Turkic languages and means Free people, warriors peoples. Those Cossacks in modern Ukraine (Zaporoje) or Caucuses (Don Cossacks) at the beginning were same Turkic people as on this video, that is why many words and lifestyle you found in the book is so similar. But then during extension of Moskovien power those Cossacks were assimilated, and started to service for Russian Tsar, nowadays those Cossacks aren’t exist anymore. But there are some people in Russia who believe that they Cossacks descendants.
