On the highveld, the winter days are excellent though the nights can be an ordeal once the temperature drops to below zero. Take a set of thick woolen hicking socks and woolen gloves and wear them if you are cold in your sleeping bag. Sitting close to a blazing fire on an icy night in winter while wrapped in a warm blanket is an experience on it's own - Old Brown sherry is never as appreciated as on times like this. We used to have a set of washable blankets solely for use when going on numerous hunting trips during winter. The actual hunting would take place at first light and by the time the sun rises the carcasses are hanging and there is a humongous quantity of fresh liver and onion frying in a skottel for breakfast.

Just hearing the animals in the background lifts me from the Scottish Highlands to the grasslands in Tembe national park. From Red and Sika deer, Otters, badgers and pine martins here in the Highlands, to the incredible wealth of species in a Southern Africa habitat, I am privileged enough in my role as a conservation adviser to have experienced both. Your videos just remind me of the sheer joy of waking up in the bush and hearing it’s diversity, even before you see it. Magical experiences, and if you ever find yourselves here - well, I’m sure I can find a few spots for you that will breath just a little of our Scottish fairy dust on your trip.

On a day when the world seems on the brink of catastrophe - it is good to see one of your videos again. They take humanity back to its earliest foundations, under the stars in Africa where we all came from regardless of what shade our skin may be these days. An African guide in northern Kruger said to me (and I am white of northern European descent) "You are African, we are all African". He was right of course.
@GetOutGO2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoyed it! I think we’re so unhappy because we are fundamentally disconnected from Nature and each other. We need to be out there and learn each other’s stories. Also proud to be African!

Hi Christoff. I was following you channel and was quite surprised when I saw the Caravan camping. Everybody always have their own choice and for their own reasons but your choice of Caravan and the reasons would be interesting for choosing that specific brand/type. My wife and I do a lot of travelling and use our Caravan (different brand)in places where few would agree or attempt to go. I don't comment on over landers and their approach to adventure yet some of the are very outspoken on people that can't go on rooftop tents etc. But I still enjoy their adventurous and minimalistic approach and pack the minimum. Except for sleeping in the Land Cruiser we can live out of it.

The pap & wors needs spinach as a side dish. Try putting a little oil in a pot, add the wors once it is heated up and cover the pot. Turn the wors over a few times but don't add water since it will toughen the skin of the wors. Remove the boerewors when done and add in chopped onion and a heaped spoon of mild curry powder to fry a few minutes in the fat from the wors. Now add a chopped tomato and again fry for a few minutes. A freshly chopped chilie added with the chopped tomato is optional but highly recommended. Add enough chopped spinach to just about fill the pot and about a cup of water (adjust water as required) plus a crushed chicken stock cube for flavour and put the lid back on. Chop the boerewors into bite sized chunks. The spinach only needs five to ten minutes to reduce after the water has boiled when the mixture can be stirred and a few heaped spoons of brown onion soup powder added to thicken the mixture together with the chopped boerewors along with the contents of a tin of baked beans. Keep the pot covered. After boiling for a few minutes, the best ever gravy to be served on pap is ready. This sounds complicated but takes twenty minutes and requires only one pot in addition to the pot for the pap. Add salt to taste though salt should not be required due to the chicken stock cube. The only way this can go wrong is by over-cooking it or by adding water right at the start.

Hi, thank you for the great content - just curious in winter is it also too cold to use the iKamper? Looking to purchase a RTT for my SUZUKI Jimny but deciding between that and the Front Runner you had previously. Leaning to the Front Runner due to weight but know you mentioned upgrading to the iKamper is a consideration because the Front Runner does not have much insulation, right?

If you don’t monetize your videos (place ads in them), KZbin does it for you and then you have no control over how many there are and where in the video they go. I have the minimum ads (pre and post, no-mid roll).
