In this episode we ventured out near Detroit Lake, Oregon to find a cozy spot along Whitewater Creek. Our spot was beautiful with an abundance of fire damage from the horrible forest fires of 2020.

I like your adventure. You are in a reasonably nice area for ⛺️ camping

Thank you! There are so many amazing spots to explore here in western and central Oregon. We are only 1 hour from the ocean and 1-2 hours from several mountains. And about 3-4 hours from some of the most remote and isolated areas in the country. We’ve only scratched the surface! Thanks for watching. 😀

That’s a great spot! Great video quality love the drone something I have yet to get. Upgrading to a Jeep soon from my Subaru to continue my overland adventures which I am going to start putting on my channel as well. Opal creek and the santiam area is my backyard for hiking before the fires so disappointing.

Thank you! What Jeep are you getting? My daily driver is a Subaru WRX STI. Love it, but not exactly the best car for overlanding. Haha. Let me know if you want info on drones. I've owned three, and have crashed many times! You can learn from my mistakes. :)

A very nice and relaxed camp at our wet forests. I really noticed the camera quality when the coffee happened. What camera for that part?

Thank you, Matt! We planned the trip because we saw there wouldn't be any rain. Of course it then proceeded to rain all night long. Figures. And you have a good eye, because the footage was a mix between a Canon 5D MK IV, and a BMPCC6K. You can DEFINITELY tell which was shot with the Black Magic, such as the coffee scenes. KZbin doesn't do it justice. The shots from the BMPCC6K are STUNNING when viewed in full 6K raw on a color calibrated 4K monitor.

@@VegaVenturing Nice I heard a few good things about that black magic. But the canon 5d is a beast I am surprised they are so different. I rock some budget gear, the canon 70d. It does the job but definitely want to upgrade at some point. Anyways glad I found your channel in my usual youtube search of 'oregon'. I will stay tuned.

@@MattCookOregon Thanks for following! I have a love/hate relationship with the BMPCC6K. It gives me the best visuals I could ever ask for, but it's not nearly as convenient to use as my Canon cameras. And yes, the battery life for the BMPCC6K is just as bad as you've heard, if not worse. It's a huge design flaw in my opinion. Honestly I might have been just as happy still using the Canon 5D, but I use Canon C200's at work, and I was getting used to the increased dynamic range. Which made the 5D not as appealing. That's why I got the BMPCC6K. But there are still things I like better about the 5D. There is no perfect camera, unfortunately.

@@VegaVenturing canon c200 jesus what you do for work?! My dream right now is the Sony A7S iii. Too spendy for me though.
@VegaVenturing3 жыл бұрын
@@MattCookOregon Haha. I'm a video and communications producer. Sony A7S III is probably next on my list. But not excited about buying new lenses. I know KZbinrs who are very successful just filming with their iPhones, so you're doing great to have the 70D!

Once again, I see why you bought that electric chainsaw! Watching your videos chronologically, but I did watch the newest one first... This spot is awesome ( apart from the sound of constant rushing water? ) That smoke was terrible last year, what a memory. I drove through the Gorge coming from Portland, and it was nothing but apocalyptic smoke so thick the river could barely be seen all the way past the Dalles...

We actually really love the sound of water at a campsite. It’s only bothersome when recording video because the water can make our voices hard to hear. And I hear ya about the smoke. I have a bad feeling this will be another bad year for forest fires. Hoping for the best.

So sad seeing fire damage, I live near Tahoe and so much fire damage also our favorite camp site was Stumpy Meadows that caught on fire.

Yes the fires were terrible here in Oregon last year and I worry this summer/fall might be bad as well. 😢
