Winter in the Cairngorms is a wild and unforgiving place, but one of the most exciting places in Scotland for a winter wild camp, and some mountain adventures along the way; nowhere in the U.K. is as brutal and Arctic feeling, with wild winds howling across the Cairngorm Plateau and swirling around Coire an t-Sneachda and Coire an Lochain
It’s the best place in Scotland for consistent winter conditions, so chasing winter here can be fruitful even in early November. It’s an exciting and exhilarating place for a hike and a camp, even in adverse weather conditions, and blowing off the summer cobwebs to experience the miseries of winter is always a worthwhile adventure.

It's a wild old place that's for sure, I've had a few solo outings up there now and it's pretty wild and remote feeling, despite being barely an hour from the car!

I've only visited the Cairngorms at winter so I enjoyed seeing these lean transitional conditions in the Northern Corries. Any idea of the overnight temperature ? Good stuff, looking forward to future episodes.

It's almost my favourite place in Scotland in the winter, feels so wild and remote! It was very windy while I was there so wind chill must've brought it down a few degrees, but I'd guess around 2C ish overnight.

@@adventurefilmclub2549 one of my favourite places too. I've never camped in Sneachda tho' - bivi'd at Shelter Stone, a few bothies ( Garbh Choire is a beaut )

@@gordonmidgley8958 I quite fancy a bivi at Shelter stone! I bivi'd on the beach of Loch Avon, but looked over at the shelter stone with half a mind to head over. Sneachda wasn't ideal, without snow on the ground it's a rocky nightmare, found one small spot next to the water to pitch the tent!

@@adventurefilmclub2549 We climbed some great routes on Shelter Stone and Hell's Lum (March 95) and we were lucky to have the bivi to ourselves - just the incredibly bold mice for company! I'd bet you'd enjoy it. Good bit of pitching in Sneachda - I watched your MSR tent video & bought myself the Elixir 1 w. footprint.
