Your Hachi story was so poignant. I can certainly understand the guilt; I missed serious symptoms once and the vet couldn’t save my little dog. New to your channel and I am loving your adventures with your dogs, your sense of humor and your "gourmet" meals. This one touched my heart. Thank you for sharing your story and struggles with feelings of guilt and doubt about Hachi (hope I spelled it right). I had a similiar experience with my cat Simon. For those of us who share our lives with furry friends, it's never "just" a cat or "just" a dog, it's losing a friend, a companion and it hurts. If you add a little doubt about not having done enough or making the wrong decision, it hurts even more. But, as you so beautifully said, the loss brought about a new friend. If I hadn't lost Simon, I wouldn't have found Charlotte who makes me smile every day. It does help to talk about it, knowing that you are not alone is very healing. Monte and Ruger are absolutely gorgeous and what a life of adventure they are living! Keep the videos coming!

Very nice video Posa. I am bawling my eyes out because I know how hard losing Hachi was for you guys. I know how much he meant to you both. He meant a lot to the whole family. The tremors from his loss were felt all over and they still bring pains to my gut when I think of him being gone. He was by far the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and you guys did a wonderful job of loving him. But I always had a feeling that you privately held yourself somewhat responsible for what happened and I hope that you don’t because what happened was never your fault. Sometimes, things happen because they do and it’s just that. I know as humans, we have a hard time blaming fate for what it is and we want to find a reason for why things happen but in Hachis case, the reason was because he got sick with a horrible condition. You did EVERYTHING humanly possible to save his life. In fact, you did more than MOST people would have done for a dog and that’s saying a lot about who you are. Both of you. You are good people and any dog or dogs you guys own in your lifetime will always have the best life; including the two amazing fur babies you have now. 😍 I love you both so very much!!! Keep up the great work Posa! Your videos are always fun to watch and The G-man always likes watching “Uncky P chop up wood and make fires” and such. 😂😂

Very interesting story about your Alaskan Husky. Very sorry for your loss. I just recently lost Dakota, one of my Great Danes. Dakota and I were very, very close for over seven years. He slept with me every night that I was home, and he would not go to bed without me. He would wait up while I worked on my computer, sometimes until past 7:00 am. Needless to say, I loved him very much. Dakota was the sixth dog that I had to put down in a period of about eleven years. It is NEVER easy. I often still have guilt feelings about having to make the decision to put my dogs down. There were five Great Danes and one Black Labrador. I loved them all, and I still do. I have all of their ashes here at the house. Fortunately, I still have Dakota's brother, Cheyenne, with me, although we are not as close as Dakota and I were yet, but we are working on it! Watching you interact and having fun with Monty is one of the reasons that I enjoy watching your You Tube videos so much. And I have to tell you this .... I am seventy three years old, and I am not ashamed to admit that I cried my eyes out for several days, after having to put Dakota down. He was a family member!

Matthew, my heart breaks for the loss of Hachi. Our Great Dane, Vail, would have died from bloat after the car trip back from the boarding kennel the day after our move. He was fine and excited when we picked him up (he had never been kenneled before) but started panting and was clearly in distress on the drive home. I pulled onto the shoulder of the highway, thinking he was car sick and needed to get out and vomit. He started heaving, but couldn’t bring anything up. I reached over to soothe him and his body was like a huge, hard basketball. Fortunately for us, the dog breeder had warned us repeatedly about bloat, because his grand sire (a show dog) had died from bloat at age 3. As soon as I touched his side, I knew it was bloat. It was very difficult to get him back in the car, but once I did, I flew down the interstate to the vet’s office. They had never seen Vail before (because of the move) and my hands were shaking trying to fill out paperwork, when what I wanted to do was scream “MY DOG IS DYING!! F)*& the paperwork!” And of course, the people at the vet’s office thought I was some crazy woman and that I was exaggerating the problem. Anyway, his stomach had indeed flipped, they were able to release the pressure and then went in and tacked his stomach in place with sutures. If we had not been with him, he would have certainly died. Please don’t blame yourself; you did everything you knew to do to help him and would have done more if you could. Hachi was a wonderful dog and he knew he was loved. The Dog Treat Song video is a treasure. Thank you for sharing him with us.
@VailsMom5 жыл бұрын
I forgot to put this in perspective: This all happened in 1994. Vail lived almost 3 more years. His picture is still on my desk. 22 years later I still miss him. He was a Good Dog. Thanks to Monty and Rueger for providing my “dog fix” on the regular. Oh. I guess I should thank Matthew (and Funk) too, since they make it all possible. 😁

Hello Matthew, Funk, Monty, and Rueger... this is my first time commenting although I've been enjoying your videos for a few weeks now. Was going to comment on some of your older videos but thought that might seem a bit odd lol. I've started at the beginning and am slowly working my way back through all of them! (I'd say I'm about halfway through!) Your channel is my favorite on KZbin and I watch part of an episode each night... I grew up in Northern Ontario so your videos make me miss the beautiful pines, lakes, moose, loons, pike, everything except the mosquitoes or "nippers" as we call them here in Newfoundland haha. I recently showed some of your videos to my parents and they loved them as well... my mom calls you "That guy with the dog and the tent" lol. My dad is a bushcrafter and fisherman as well and really enjoys watching. Thanks for your wonderful channel and keep up the good work!! And Monty looks so cute in his orange vest! (And that was an epic somersault lol)

Fine looking steak. And the cause behind the challenge is a good one. I know a few people who served in the military who have their ups and downs. It's a big deal. I've pointed them to some of these steak videos for the entertainment value as well as the message. Funcrafting is the best way to look at it. Hardcore bushcrafting is interesting, but I would rather watch a dude who is having fun and learning to use those skills and implementing them into his routine outings. Seeing all those deer tracks made me want to go out hunting again. Sadly it is looking like I am skunked this year. Only a couple steaks left in the freezer from the two I harvested last year. Oh well. It happens. I still have more of the video to watch yet this evening.
@MatthewPosa6 жыл бұрын
Me too! The whole time I was thinking about hunting. I might even try to do a 2 nighter campout there and hunt during the second day maybe. I am probably going to get skunked too. I slept during my nice buck hahaha!
