Keep up the good work. Your filmography is very good. The distant shots that are set up ahead of time add quite a lot interest and background to your videos. We get a sense of traveling with you as though we were just 20 or 30 ft away from you. Too many video are shot with stick cameras off the hip They are bouncy and can be annoying if over done.

He really is. He pays very good attention to try and learn how to cook like this on his own. It was soooo good! He's only tried to steal food a couple times when it passed right by his face. But he knows that if he just watches, he is guaranteed some. I think I would laugh and cry if Monty did that!

Matthew, I was so hungry and that steak was so beautifully thick and juicy, I almost cried and was bit pissy that my dog gobbled it up in one gulp while I had my back turned, them looked at me , licking her lips and wondering if there was any more!

Hate to admit it but I often fast forward to the point in your videos when you either start your campfire or begin your food prep. It’s my favourite aspect of your video’s. I’d like more time by the campfire just taking in the the sights and sounds with you as well. So peaceful and relaxing. I love the longer format.

To my recollection, winter camping = no mosquitos -and- summer camping = mosquitos. I remember only those two seasons in MI (just kidding). In southern New Mexico, we have summer (49.5 weeks a year), and windy (about 2.5 weeks a year). But no mosquitos-unless you’re standing in the Rio Grande.🌵 Thanks for another great video!!! I have watched all your videos alot, over and over and copied your recipes and bought that Montreal seasoning and I can not wait to try those recipes and cook it over an open fire this summer camping. You have inspired my family and even my 20yr old Grandson bought himself alot of hiking and camping gear to try some of the things you did and do. He is going to try to starting fires like you do and he bought an axe to chop our fire wood and my 16yr old Granddaughter and my daughter (her mother) are regular kayakers and are going with me to camp and adventure more this summer and my youngest Grandson is 14yrs old and loves fishing and camping. Thanks for all your inspiration and Yes, my dog Sweeney is our adventure puppy, he is 9+ yrs old and he is going to be spoiled just like Monty. I bought him his own camping supplies as well.

Me again! Had to get something to eat while I’m watching your videos. Anyway, I remember a nurse that used to work here in Las Cruces, and she was from some little town in the upper peninsula of MI, and her name was Jeanie Funke. She told a story about walking to school as a kid, and sometimes her mom would tell the kids, “Better take the long way to school,” (rather than their shortcut through the woods)...”there’s bear shit on the trail.” So you be careful out there...the bears are waking up from their winter hibernation, and they’re HUNGRY and they all wake up on the wrong side of the bed, cave, hole. Doing my best! I won't lie though. Camping every week and building shelters can be a little tough! That's why I've done a couple under the star camps. A lot more relaxing. I like to do an overnighter whenever I get the time. I really want to head out for multiple nights, just waiting for the right time!

OK, I looked it up. Pastie dough, like pie dough, doesn’t really need to RISE after mixing, it just needs a 20 minute REST (this makes the dough easier to work with/roll out). Cookbooks suggest forming the dough into a 3-4” disk, then wrapping it snuggly in plastic wrap and putting it in the REFRIGERATOR! So, it seems Michigan weather (during this winter/spring “whatever” period) is rather perfect for this project! KGB

That little stream in the beginning of this episode-do you think that you could have caught any fish in there?? So, re: the pasties. These little meat pies we introduced to the upper peninsula by the Cornish miners that emigrated to America. They would carry the pasties inside their helmets to keep them warm, and eat them for lunch. I think just about any version of this would be fine. You may wish to wait until the weather is warmer, or carry the (already made) dough in a ziplock bag in a pocket that keeps it from freezing. A campfire-style dutch oven would work to “bake” it. It wouldn’t be so bad to bring the dutch oven if you used your sled

Absolutely! There are fish in pretty much every stream that doesn't freeze solid during the winter. I am still gonna make a pasty, that's for sure!
